@christiesinc is the most prestigious and highest-grossing art auction house in the world today. And tomorrow, a piece of digital art featuring me by @__osinachi will be auctioned off by the historic house. Crazy!!
Osinachi, who is Africa’s foremost crypto artist, kindly asked me to sit for this work, and though I’ve just seen the image for the first time only recently, I kept hearing about it on the street from people who saw it and shared their appreciation for it. When I saw it myself, I was both wowed and felt a deep sense of gratitude. Inspired by Osinachi’s talent (can you believe he produces all his artwork using Microsoft Word!?) and beyond grateful for being the muse for this piece.
The piece is entitled “Abitt: The Second Renaissance is Coming”.
What’s crazy to me is I have a photo of a piece of art by another acclaimed Black artist on my vision board that I want to acquire one day. Acquiring that piece would be a feat, but you gotta aim high, right? But, I couldn’t have predicted that God had even bigger plans to have me instead *BE* a piece of art performed by a globally renowned Black artist like that of Osinachi. And for it to be on the blockchain is just God showing out. You can’t delete me! Haha.
And for this to be auctioned off by Christie’s? C’mon man. Huge.
From Christie’s: “Osinachi’s Abitt: The Second Renaissance is Coming bears its history on the surface. Rendered in vivid colour, the central figure is framed by elements of the artist’s present. An historic building opposing a street art mural present the figure in the city, but a pair of highway signs specify the location as Toledo, Ohio. These elements in an almost forced perspective are brought together by textures — like Basquiat finds his textures on the street, Osinachi discovers his on the internet, incorporating them seamlessly into his digital canvas.”
