Over the past 3 months, we have been working with 12 Chicago artists to create 6 new plays for you. Night #1 is December 5th, Night #2 is December 12th
I hope you can make it out to one or both of these nights!
The Workshops: Over the past 3 months, the cohort has gotten headshots (thanks, Brandii Champagne), artistic statement feedback (thanks, Karina Patel), artistic website feedback (thanks, Mikael Burke), and a DIY workshop on how to produce on their own (thanks Ramona Rotten) - throw in monthly writer rooms (thanks, The Understudy), cohort play outings (thanks, Neo-Futurists), and as many opportunities for networking as we can create.
We want each cohort member to leave inc. feeling like they’ve got a new toolbox of professional resources and connections to artists that they can take with them as they continue working in Chicago. This is an incubator for plays and the artists.
Why 30-minute excerpts? We want to wet your appetite! A lot of these plays are just being put into the oven rather than being ready to be taken out (they’re at the start of their development). There are a host of new play development opportunities in Chicago and we are hoping you consider these plays for that space! You’re watching a 30-minute excerpt of a fleshed-out section, but the skeleton/structure of the play has been thought out - they just need more time and space to write the rest of the script.
Each playwright had to submit a synopsis when they applied to the program, we’ve added it to the ticket link if you’re curious what these plays are about and what got us excited.
Why promote the night to you?
This program is providing resources I wish I had had when I moved to Chicago in 2020 during COVID, one of those being friends and peers in the art space. As a friend in the art space, if you’re able at all to come see the shows and say hi to the cohort (or me, I’d love to see a friendly face) that would mean the world to the artists presenting that night.
