āpeace u needā by the amazing @fredagainagainagainagainagain and @joyanonymous . Co-written and co-produced by me!
Have loved watching the journey of this little piece of music I started with my friend Hen. I wanted to make something that moved a little slower with chords that had a real weight to them. Something that tugged at the heart that you could move to. The idea had such an emotional effect on me but I didnāt know what weād do with it⦠Then a few months later, Fred and Hen said theyād developed it into something really special. A few more months went by and then the boys āparent trappedā me and my dear friend and studio neighbour @barneylister into throwing some production ideas at it just in time for them to play at Sydney Opera House!
A real honour to be a part of this song. Thank you Hen, Fred and Barney š
A few weeks ago, on a sunny afternoon in Suffolk, I wrote and recorded a new album of ambient improvisations. Inspired by watching our son paint that morning, I decided to just āmakeā for the enjoyment of making (something I felt I hadnāt done for a while). I captured whatever came naturally in that room (on vertegrand piano, Wurlitzer and Rhodes) and before I knew it, it was done. The only prerequisite I had was to release it from my head and laptop as soon as possible. So here is āde kooiā by my ambient project WJB. Massive love and thanks to my @decoysound brothers for being so generous with their time and space. I canāt stress enough how helpful Iāve found this process and I recommend to any creative out there to break with tradition and release something for their own creativityās sake. Iām very proud of it and I hope it helps soundtrack a moment of calm or reflection for whoever listens to it. x

Forever grateful that I get to call this my job and forever grateful that I get to work with such wonderful, talented and inspiring people!
Thanks for the reminder @applemusic š

i have an album of piano pieces out today. Itās also my birthday today so I guess this is the musical equivalent of bringing your own birthday cake to work?
The album is called a āgentle plea for chaosā. Itās a collection of pieces/improvisations for the solo piano. composed, played and recorded by me on our family upright.
The title is lifted from a book by the horticultural writer Mirabel Osler. A charming little book full of ramblings on the joys and frustrations of gardening and it was this book that my dad gave my mum as a gift when they first met.
My mum and dad poured so much time and passion into their garden so this album is dedicated to them and their love for each other and all things flora (and thatās where the flower titles came from too).
I actually recorded this album a few years ago shortly after my dad passed away. for a long time it felt too precious a thing to let out into the world. It was a frozen feeling and memory that I wasnāt ready to let go of but now (rather fittingly) after some years of gentle tending and patience, Iām ready for you to hear these slightly scrappy piano pieces. Iām very proud of it and I hope you like it too. x

āSuperbloomā by the amazing @jessieware ! I had the pleasure of co-writing the title track with Jessie and @barneylister (who, along with @karmakiduk also did an exceptional job of producing the album). Through a chance run-in at LAX I plucked up the courage to ask Jess if sheād be up for a session and Iām so glad she took a chance because we ended up making one of my favourite songs Iāve ever been a part of! I also contributed some wonky, cosmic slide guitar on āThe Garden Preludeā. A real honour to be involved in the making of this album alongside so many of my talented friends. Go listen in all the usual places š
Last week I had the pleasure of co-curating a songwriting camp with the amazing team at @limusic_studio .
We took 22 of our favourite musicians to an idyllic studio in the south of France and made music just for the joy of making music. Aside from being a generally wholesome time (the quality of the music was insane too), it was a beautiful reminder that we all need moments like this to throw paint outside of the restraints of our usual canvases.
It was a real life changing experience and I canāt wait to do more. Big love to everyone who made this one so special š
āPlease Donāt Hate Meā by the amazing @aaronrowe__ . Wrote this with my brothers Aaron and @billmaybs on one of the hottest days of the year last summer. I say wrote, but actually I just played some drones and the lads wrote this heartbreaking song on top. Big thanks to @toddshermanclark@jcstewart@ronanbarra_ for the gorgeous prod and arrangement. Love this song and honoured to be a part of it. š
Surprise! Our EP, āThe BFB Hearts Wilcoā is out now. If youāre new here, you may not be aware of just how much my dad and I (and our whole family in fact) loved the band @wilco .
Classic bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin were among the first musical delights my dad shared with me as a child but Wilco was the first band we shared with each other as friends. Our gateway drug was their song Impossible Germany and from then on we loved finding trinkets scattered across their spoiling discography. Car journeys, sofa jams and youtube rabbit holes were all Wilco shaped.
It made total sense then that when we started our family band, we would of course pay respect to our Chicago heroes. We started working on a version of Impossible Germany in 2020. Dad and I were tweaking it right up until the week he died and then it took 2 years for me to feel strong enough to finish it with our drummer Jon (who we then lost the following year). Weāve since recorded a few of our other family favourites and thereās even a scratchy phone recording of my sister and dad playing in a hospital room too. So this EP of covers is really a celebration of our dearly departed bandmates and our shared love of all things Wilco. We hope you enjoy it too x
āMaiden Voyageā, the debut album by @jesseandbill ! @willemolenski and I started making some of this music almost 10 years ago but the main push came after lockdown. Weād always wanted to make a body of work that tipped the hat to our favourite easy listening/cowboy crooner/country heroes so we threw ourselves into that world, sang in the lowest parts of our voices and took on the alter egos of Jesse Hickling and Bill Roofthooft in the process.
I loved taking things back to basics for this record. No programming, no over-editing, just simple songwriting, simple recording set ups and lots of spring and plate reverb!
Big love to @hilangchild for his impeccable drumming across the album, @sofia.grant._ and @rupert.greaves for bringing the songs to life in our short lived live band, but most of my brother Willem for steering this slow moving vessel and helping make something weāre very proud of. We hope you enjoy it too x
