The dance Qhapaq Qolla performed at the Festival Señor de Torrechayoc (starting in the templo) in Urubamba, Peru. They play llama herders coming in from the highlands with their alpaca meat in exchange for the foods of the green Sacred Valley. Their playful performance often imitates baby llamas. Their clothing is part alpaca, part sheep wool, covered fully because of their cold highland home. #peru #urubamba #folkore #cuscoperú🇵🇪 with @ospix for @highdrydesert
Varayoq Qhaswa is a dance dedicated to the governmental authorities from the eastern highlands village of Ollantaytambo. The celebration happened at the temple for the Lord of Torrechayoc in Urubamba. Males lead the dance carrying stakes, which signify power of the local government. #peru #traditions #urubamba #ollantaytambo with @ospix for @highdrydesert

A few weeks ago we held a community forum in Mission Viejo with Jack Eidt from @wilderutopia and @ryan_lenney focused on the cost of housing and ways to build affordable, beautiful communities.
Housing is in part so expensive because over time, we haven’t built enough to keep up with population growth. There’s a few reasons for this, including regulation, costs, and market imbalances that lead to both demand-side pressures (e.g. PE firms and foreign investors buying to rent) and supply-side misalignment of incentives (e.g. developers building more luxury homes and less affordable homes).
The good news is that we can reverse that trend. By doing *targeted* de-regulation for affordable housing, reducing costs of construction materials, and planning with a transportation-focused mindset, we can and will build more homes that people can afford and protect the beauty of our environment. 🏡🇺🇸🏗️🌳 #housing #california
‘High & Dry’ is just back from exploring the remote California desert. After bouncing along a closed section of historic Route 66, we spent a night in this caboose near a former rail depot in Goffs, CA. In the darkness of a moonless night, an evening visit by planet Venus was followed by a SpaceX blast off from Vandenberg AFB (2nd photo). Learn more about these strange events in our upcoming story on PBSsocal.

Wild times! Have made two research trips to California’s Central Valley and Sequoia National Park in the High Sierra. With @outdoorwriterca sponsored by @visitvisalia we toured a hidden cave, explored giant sequoia groves, toured Kaweah Oaks Preserve and other protected lands, hung out with the great people of Visalia, enjoyed the murals of Exeter. My research covered the possibilities of restoring Tulare Lake, land back for the Tule Indian Tribe, and the reality of protecting the wilderness areas of the Sierra from a changing climate, and hungry timber industries. @sequoiaparksconservancy@sequoiariverlands #visitvisalia #sequoianationalpark #outdoorwriter #visalia #visaliaca climatechange
Our U.S. elites—and many of the elite-supporters—suffer from this sense that we can do anything we want in the world with no consequences. Our military-industrial-congressional-complex has invested the wealth of this country into a mass killing machine. We have all these arms, we have all these bases. If there’s a nation out there that we don’t like, we can change their government. And they should just be happy for the help. Check out my latest for @ecojusticeradio_ on the machinations toward World War III. We feature multiple perspectives on the war effort.
