SOLD OUT - Seating RSVP is now full THE ELEMENTAL @the.elemental will feature Phillip K. Smith III @phillipksmith3 in conversation with Steven Biller @stevenbiller_x as part of our ongoing Dialogue & Exploration series. The discussion will focus on the past, present and future of the Light & Space movement. Additionally, THE ELEMENTAL’s current exhibition Fractured Horizon: Explorations in Light & Atmosphere will be on view featuring works by: GUILLERMO CELIS CRISTOPHER CICHOCKI CAMERON GAINER DAVID WALLACE HASKINS SEBASTIAN KNOT SHANA MABARI MARIE-LUCE NADAL JAVIER PELÁEZ RAÚL REBOLLEDO CHRIS SANCHEZ PHILLIP K. SMITH III RICHARD TWEDT GLEN WEXLER American artist Phillip K. Smith III (b. Calif., 1972) uses light as a medium to create optically shifting sculptures and site-specific installations. His minimal but imposing interventions into vast outdoor landscapes and more discreetly scaled sculptures are nuanced perceptual encounters in response to the unique conditions of site and context. Expansile and living, Smith’s boundary-dissolving sculptures alter the interplay of light, color, and surface in an expanded field, proposing shifts in experiential pace to modify the viewer’s physical encounter. Trained as an artist and an architect at Rhode Island School of Design, Smith incorporates the site-specificity of architecture, with its reliance on scale and its capacity to physically impact the human interaction it supports to create immersive viewing experiences. Steven Biller has spent more than two decades advancing art in California’s desert as a journalist, editor, consultant, curator, and leader. As longtime editorial director of Palm Springs Life, he transformed the magazine into a leading voice on arts, architecture, and design, while launching Palm Springs Life Arts + Culture, now in its third decade. His work has elevated regional artists, expanded audiences, and helped shape the cultural identity of the Coachella Valley and High Desert. THE ELEMENTAL is a contemporary center for the arts located in Palm Springs, California available for viewing by appointment.

THE ELEMENTAL presents DIALOGUE & EXPLORATION featuring Cristopher Cichocki @cristophercichocki in conversation with Sharrissa Iqbal @sharrissaiqbal to discuss Cichocki’s current exhibition on view at THE ELEMENTAL: Primordial Waters - Chapter 2.0: Beyond Land & Sea. * LIMITED RSVP - (Required RSVP Link in bio)   Cristopher Cichocki’s exploration of art, ecology, and time offers a constellation of paintings, sculptures, video, sound, and light-based works that deepen his investigation into humanity’s relationship with the natural world. For nearly two decades, Cichocki has transformed the desert’s parched landscapes and industrial remnants into an ecological language of form and sound. Cichocki embraces the traditions of land art and the light and space movement, but his sensibility feels distinctly 21st century — data driven and rooted in environmental urgency. Sharrissa Iqbal specializes in American art with a focus on artistic abstraction in Southern California. She earned her PhD in Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine in 2021 and her MA in the History and Theory of Contemporary Art at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2014. As Associate Curator for Modern and Contemporary Art at the Palm Springs Art Museum, she co-curated the exhibition Particles and Waves: Southern California Abstraction and Science, 1945-1990 in conjunction with The Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative. Iqbal was one of just three honorees from the Coachella Valley who were recognized as the Women Who Lead 2025 by Palm Springs Life Magazine.   For additional information please visit: theelemental.org

Join us Saturday afternoon @the.elemental for open viewing hours of Cristopher Cichocki / Primordial Waters - Chapter 2.0: Beyond Land & Sea. Additionally, the gallery will have open hours every Saturday through January 24th from 12pm - 4pm Primordial Waters - Chapter 2.0: Beyond Land & Sea continues artist Cristopher Cichocki’s exploration of art, ecology, and time. This chapter offers a constellation of paintings, sculptures, video, sound, and light-based works that deepen his investigation into humanity’s relationship with the natural world. For nearly two decades, Cichocki has transformed the desert’s parched landscapes and industrial remnants into an ecological language of form and sound. His materials often come directly from the desert itself: barnacles and debris collected from the Salton Sea, emergency water canisters stamped with Cold War insignia, and fragments of rusted metal recast in luminous resin and chrome. The resulting works blur the prehistoric and the post-industrial, the elemental and the technological. Cichocki embraces the traditions of land art and the light and space movement, but his sensibility feels distinctly 21st century — data driven and rooted in environmental urgency. His ongoing audiovisual series, Circular Dimensions, returns to THE ELEMENTAL throughout the exhibition’s run, activating the space with live performances that merge sound, projection, and ritual gesture. for more info visit: theelemental.org
