Dear friends,
I wanted to share a meaningful collaboration connected to my exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College.
Students from St. Andrews Montessori in Macon and the Lower Dauphin School District in Lancaster explored ideas central to my work—line, shape, and color as expressions of movement, pattern, and rhythm. Using approaches ranging from structured to intuitive, they even reinterpreted elements of my compositions through tangram forms.
I’m sharing a few glimpses of their process and work here (with faces obscured for privacy). Their creativity and engagement were a joy to see.
Warmly,
Lorien

Soft Sculpture in progress—each coil carries variation, building structure through accumulation. Color and beadwork begin to punctuate the surface, introducing moments of interruption.

Structure, interrupted.
Coiled fiber sets the system. Beads shift it—introducing density, drift, and variation across the surface. #softsculpture #fiberart #textileart

Drift and Root Series—Soft Sculpture 3 (25”H x 17” W, fiber mixed media) explores volume, movement, and tactile contrast through layered textile construction. Its flared and folded forms suggest growth, shelter, and transformation, while patterned surfaces, plush elements, and beaded edging create shifting visual rhythms from every vantage point. #fiberart
