Massive massive shout out to Chloe @libraryofchlo from @torbooksuk for posting this through my door! Tough gangsters, shadowy organisations and bloody vampires YES PLEASE! 🧛 This new dark urban fantasy by Ben Shepherd is out in September 26 and it is going to be good! It’s got vampires, organised crime and magic! Think Empire of the Vampire meets Slow Horses! Blurb 💭 Freddie Burns just wants ten pints, a fight, and to take over his uncle’s fading gangland empire. But when a routine hit goes wrong, Freddie stumbles into a secret London – one where vampires are real, monsters hide in plain sight and a ruthless power broker keeps it all buried. Good thing he has a talent for giving vampires a good kicking. Them, and anyone else who looks at him funny. Freddie’s ability to rip magical strength from the death of living things makes him the most dangerous man in any room – and the most useful. From the blood-soaked streets of South London to the dark halls of vampire royalty, everyone wants him on their side, but no one trusts him. And he doesn’t trust himself. Too bad it might be up to Freddie to save the world – or at least not wreck it entirely. He just needs a drink first. Would you trust a gangland vampire?? #newbook #darkfantasy #books #bookstagram #giftedbook

Book Review The Violently Departed by @sarahkennedydaley Pages: 315 Publisher: @angryrobotbooks Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Massive thanks to @angryrobotbooks for having me on the tour for The Violently Departed I am obsessed! I need more @sarahkennedydaley in my bookshelf! My Thoughts 💭 This was a supernatural thriller I didn’t know I needed. I was honestly sucked in by the storyline, Hero, DH Keen and the writing. I mean a half demon death speaker working with a demon hunter shouldn’t work but it really did. What starts off as a simple investigation into the death of a nun in the town Inspector Hero Viridin grew up turns into a multi murder mystery complicated by powerful spells, missing children and an evil ancient creature set to cause chaos. I think Hero is the badass inspector we would all want solving the case if we were murdered. Along with her calm, process driven (at times) partner in crime DH Keen. They are the Sherlock and Watson of the underworld! I really hope we see more case for Viridin and Keen in the future as I devoured this book like a demon from pandemonium devours children’s souls….. I am taking part in the ChallyPop Challenge for The Violently Departed by Sarah J. Daley. #theviolentlydepartedbookclub #angryrobotbooks #supernaturalthriller #bookrecs #tandembookclub

Book Review AD/PR Rialto by @katemilfordnagspeake Pages: 462 Genre: Young Adult Fantasy Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Massive thank you to @katemilfordnagspeake @novel.tours and @harper360uk for having me on this tour, this book was beautiful both in design and story and I am so glad I got to read it! Yes this is aimed at children aged 12 - 14 but this 38yr old loved it so do not think you are too old to read it! It followed the story of two sisters holidaying at their mums friends home in Rialto. Along with Remy the three children set off on a quest to deliver the bequests left in his nans will. This quest however is a journey of discovery, uncovering the history of the small town and the events that led to the closing of the beloved Rialto theme park. With fantastical creatures, a story of heartbreak and betrayal, the children uncover the truth bringing magic back to Rilato and those around. It covers the topics of anxiety so well and the challenges that Dahlia faces are so realistic, I also loved however how it showed the challenges of Ivy a sister dealing struggling to deal with the changes and becoming over protective. It was great to see things like coping mechanisms and therapy built into the storyline normalising something so many people face! From the descriptions of the carousel animals to the music boxes and the stories passed through generations this book is brilliant at making you visualise Rilato and making you want to go! A whimsical, heartfelt fantasy that will transport you to the wonder of Rilato and lead you on a quest of discovery! P.S. A wonder of this book is the music boxes so I couldn’t not include my Howls Moving Castle music box! QOTD: What music would your music box play? #rialto #newbook #bookrecs #books #youngadultfantasy

I love the vivid orange of the book it is giving me great vibes about the read to come! Blurb Fifty-something newspaper columnist, Frank Savage, pens a controversial piece calling for dogs and babies to be banned from cafés as his swansong to journalism. Instead of being dismissed, the column catapults him to stardom—and into further trouble. On a night out, Frank spots his arch-enemy, Brewster, 56—an apparently reformed racist, homophobic football hooligan turned drug dealer, now a respected figure in the local community—whom he blames for his brother’s death. Book Mail AD/PR The Stone Witch by @by_annarasche Pages: 320 Genre: Historical Fiction/Fantasy Publisher: Legend Press I absolutely loved The Amalfi Curse recently so when the opportunity came up with @_thebooksocial to grab another witchy themed book in Italy I could not resist! Florence without a doubt was my favourite stop on mine and my husbands Italian backpacking trip and I can’t wait to dive in and read a witchy tale set in this stunning city! If this sounds up your street you can get your own copy from the @_thebooksocial (thebooksocial.co.uk) with 10% off using RIAN10 on both the paperback and hardback. I have started reading and can tell you I already love it! Blurb 1348. As the Black Plague lays waste to Italy, Ginevra di Gasparo is summoned back to Florence after nearly a decade of lonely exile. Ginevra has a gift―using the ancient practices of alchemy she learned as a young girl, she can heal the sick. But when word traveled of her unusual craft, she was condemned as a witch and banished. Now, the same men who expelled Ginevra are begging for her return. She obliges, assuming the city’s leaders are finally ready to accept her unorthodox cures amidst a pandemic. But upon arrival, she is tasked with a much different mission: she must use her collection of jewels to track down a ruthless thief who is ransacking Florence’s churches for priceless relics, leaving mysterious vials of brightly colored liquids in their place. If she succeeds, she’ll be a recognized physician, never accused of witchcraft again. But as her investigation progresses, Ginevra discovers she’s merely a pawn in a much larger scheme than the one she’s been hired to solve. And the dangerous men behind this conspiracy won’t think twice about killing a stone witch to get what they want. Check back for my review! #newbook #bookrecs #books #historicalfiction #fantasybooks

It has the nicest lime green spredge aswell *chefs kiss* I can’t wait to jump in and read this because it just sounds epic! Crone Blurb Eli Lamp is a broken man. An ex-detective, ex-addict, and long-grieving father whose daughter, Hannah, disappeared a decade before, Eli decimated his old life investigating her abduction and is now indebted to the Crooked Wheel, a local drug gang, as an enforcer. But when the son of the Crooked Wheel’s boss is viciously murdered, Eli is met with a simple demand: Find out who killed him and your debt to the Wheel is clear forever. You’re free. This pursuit brings him into the orbit of Avery Bryant, Hannah’s best friend and the last person to see her before she went missing. Soon, Eli and Avery are entwined in a hunt for answers that spans decades and brings churning to the surface a conspiracy linking not only these current tragedies, but the buried sorrows of Eli’s past. And though none of them dare say the word “witch,” at least not out loud, something lurks in the woods, bent-backed and black-eyed, clawed and vengeful, looming ever closer. . . . #proof #newbook #books #bookstagram #hauntingreads

Book Review AD/PR Massive thank you to @secondskybooks for having me on the tour for @rs_moule new book in the Legends of The Shadow series! What an Epic fantasy!! Book: The Assassins War Author: R.S Moule Pages: 374 Genre: Epic Fantasy Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 My Thoughts 💭 This is another brilliant installment of the Legends of The Shadows series, back with Locan A’Shadow and Cetrik. Locan’s survival relies on Cetrik and his skills in rescuing him before he is auctioned off to the highest bidder, but not all of Cetrik’s allies can be trusted and the duo find themselves in another precarious situation with the fate of the dominion in their hands! The family dynamics between Cetrik and his sister I found really interesting in this book and the very rare occurrence on Locan’s soft side for the woman he loved. Of course the epic battles steal the show, with new levels of trickery and a host of new enemies to slay. I can’t get enough of Locan and Cetrik’s bickering, at times I really feel like they should be two grumpy old men 🤣 This book had some fantastic twists and has certainly finished with opportunities for future storylines and books which will keep us in the lives of Cetrik and Locan. I really want Morvolt as a pet his sass is brilliant and the animal side kick you want when heading into battle! I LOVED the use of imagery to trick people thoughts in this book torturing them with life like visions design to inflict deep fear! The reason I have marked this 4.5 stars not 5 is purely as I loved The Assassins Shadow slightly more than this book. But honestly all three books in this series so far have been gripping and enjoyable and I can’t wait for more! If you are a fan of epic fantasy and you haven’t read these books you need to as they are everything you want in an epic fantasy! Massive shoutout to @secondskybooks for introducing me to this series. #newbook #bookrecs #epicfantasy #books #theassassinswar
