Enjoyed this just as much as I expected. Always a delight when a sequel lives up to its predecessor.
It’s fast paced and weird, so if that’s your vibe - jump in!
The Devil by Name is the second book in the Fever House duology and picks up five years after ‘The Message’. In a world completely changed and overrun with ‘fevered’ Terradyne Industries have forged a link with what remains of the US government, working together to quarantine entire cities and attempt to reassert some control over the country.
Like Fever House we follow multiple points of view, as each link in the chain returns to Portland where the madness all began. There occurs a reckoning - the wife, the son, the light.
It took me a while to finish as I’ve been unwell, but the characters come through exceptionally strongly and the world is so well built that I found it seamless to pick up again after a break.
Just excellent, read it!

I’m genuinely so hyped for this one. It sounds like pure folk horror goodness. Dark, eerie and exactly the kind of story that makes you feel like something is just slightly off the whole time. Ancient energy, creeping dread and that slow burn tension that gets under your skin in the best way.
I cannot wait to dive in and get lost in this one and I am fully resisting that urge right now. Watch this space …
