It once started with champagne and flowers Then newborn snuggles Toddler giggles Fruit on a plate and hot coffee Energetic leaps and spilled coffee Adventures, more adventures, all the adventures And now? The cycle begins again… just with a lot more fur. Happy Mother’s Day! šŸ’•ā¤ļøšŸ’•šŸ˜Š#mothersday

Excited and honored to start my week with this announcement. Even more excited to look down the list and realize the truly excellent and talented company I’m keeping there. I will never grow tired of writing about German (and German-adjacent!) wine. Even, or maybe especially, in challenging times it remains an honor and a pleasure. (And it’s nice to put that MFA to use as well!) #winewriting #67pallmallawards

A growing network of low-intervention winemakers is redefining Franken’s historic terroir. Paula reports. Pictured, shrouded in fog, one of the steep, terraced vineyards farmed by Stefan and Katja Vetter. Even with half the visitors of 2019, Düsseldorf proved it still holds a powerful, emotional sympathy vote among German producers. It’s a loyalty that doesn’t show up on spreadsheets and pie charts. But can it sustain ProWeinā€˜s future? I’ve put together my thoughts on the clash between Parisā€˜ allure and influence and ProWeinā€˜s pragmatism and pride for @trink_magazine . Link in bio!

New episode from the team at TRINK Magazine. One we highly recommend. In Season 2, Episode 2 of TRINKTalks, co-founders Valerie Kathawala and Paula Redes Sidore sit down with Karsten Peter, the visionary winemaker behind Gut Hermannsberg in Germany’s Nahe. Known for their sharp, culturally nuanced lens on German wines, the hosts guide a thoughtful conversation on patience, place and long-term thinking. Karsten speaks candidly about his bold late-release philosophy - holding back top Rieslings for five years to allow terroir to fully emerge - and the radical decision to declassify the entire 2024 harvest after devastating frost. From the volcanic Kupfergrube to his limestone-driven personal project in the Pfalz, this episode explores conviction, restraint and the long game in fine wine. Listen now on Apple or Spotify (link in bio). And if you enjoy it, a rating helps these stories travel further.

There are stories that stick with you, hang out at the edge of your consciousness, emerge at the oddest of hours and simply refuse to release you. They pester and plead until finally you give in and write them down. So was it that I found myself with a convoluted pitch musing about an unforgettable line-up of 2008 prestige cuvĆ©e champagne. And the oh-so-smart editor @laurbuzzed at Full Pour simply said: keep it up, that’s the piece. Stream-of-consciousness, go. And that freedom to link and break, follow and defy ideas, language, form opened up worlds, there was rhythm and pace, phrasing and fun. More slam poetry than staid prose. It came together in ways that made me want to write more. In ways that, for the first time in a long time, reminded me why I write at all. Out in the winter edition of Full Pour magazine (available for order on line) now! Thank you to @laurbuzzed for the platform and encouragement, and to @schnutentunker and @radkesascha of FWH for the inspirational tasting. #winewriting #writing #champagne #grandchampagne

Even when I’m old enough to be sending my own care packages to @tillman.uganda , there is no greater show of love than getting a package filled with the tastes of home. Thanks, dad ā¤ļø, I love and miss you too. #homefortheholidays #expatliving #newenglandflavors

Once upon a time it was the old fashioned, the martini or the G&T. The era was mid-century modern. The time was five o’ clock, maybe six. This was the cocktail hour: A cherished ritual of elegance and transition. But today, that allure lies less in the alcohol than in the demarcation line it draws between the professional and the private. This vibe shift has made room for a new generation of non-alcoholic ferments and blends built from the ground up. Proxies. Drinks of intention. For my first story in the brilliant (and print-only!) @fullpourmag , I got to challenge the idea that grapes get all the glory and taste through the German makers treating tea, herbs, and fruit with the same reverence and respect. A huge thank you to @von_wiesen , @c.kloss_sektmanufaktur , and @vannahmen_privatkelterei for the insights. And to Lauren Buzzeo for the great editing, inspiration and stage. Grab a physical copy to read the full piece. šŸ„‚ #FullPourMag #SparklingTea #NonAlcoholic #ZeroProof #Proxies #Drinkstagram #MindfulDrinking #longliveprint #WineWriter
