I am taking the plunge! First video is up! I had the pleasure last week of doing a 4 day prop making course hosted by @makinariumukltd as a part of the @themakinariumacademy short courses. It was a great experience. Alongside some great talks from industry professionals, we worked with polystyrene carving and Jesmonite hard coating to craft some stone tablet props. It was a really fun challenge going back to my roots and working with very limited tools and materials, no digital techniques at all, just polystyrene, a pencil and a scalpel then the coating and painting. I opted for an ancient Egyptian theme with a winged scarab beetle, an homage to some of my favourite films! This year our Module 4 Prop on the @nftsmodelmaking course was James Bond themed. @edfarrell_art and I decided to build the grappling hook gun from Goldfinger (1964). We were on a bit of a time crunch due to some work experience so the whole build start to finish was completed in 17 days. Can you tell which is which? Was super exciting getting to work together on this and incorporating the moving parts that were not present on the original prop. This is for our prop module on the @nftsmodelmaking course. Just a quick teaser for our grappling hook movement mechanism for our James Bond prop from Goldfinger. After several different maquettes and tests we have super reliable and smooth movement. A few other bits left to sort out on this build and then on to the paint work! Super proud of the work @edfarrell_art and I have done on this prop so far, especially adding functionality to the prop that was not in the original! Just got back this beautifully edited photo by @alteregoimages of the Bioshock splicer cosplays the lovely @skyaking_ and I made and wore to @mcmcomiccon this past October. I have been a huge bioshock fan since the first game came out and been wanting to make these masks for years. Was so fun to finally have an event to push me to finally make them! The whole cosplays were built in about 7 days. Throwback post! While I am working on some more new projects, just wanted to finally post these pictures of the blue spirit costume I made from avatar the last airbender. This was my first time making props for a cosplay, and I definitely learned a lot about what needs to be done to make something enjoyable to wear for a whole day walking around. The mask, swordsand scabbard were 3D modelled, printed and painted by myself. The clothing and shoes were a combination of sourced and reworked with sewing and alterations. This piece is something myself and the other @nftsmodelmaking students collaborated on and built in about 2 weeks for @cycle.game.film one of the @nfts_games course games by @jad.c.b for their display at @egxofficial this past October. It was a pleasure getting to work on such a fun build and including some electronics to add a little bit extra to the finished piece. It felt like quite a significant moment, growing up with video games being such a big part of my life, getting to make the first video game prop to be displayed at a convention was very surreal in the best ways. Constructed out of layers of lasercut MDF and acrylic, with 3D printed elements, and a vacformed screen, backlit by LED strips. All hand painted and finished by us. This is actually a project from much earlier in the year. I made this 1:5 scale replica of the prancing pony sign from the Lord of the Rings as a piece for my portfolio for my @nftsmodelmaking application. I hadn’t really made anything at scale before, so trying to find references and getting proper measurements was really tricky but I was very proud of how it all turned out! Final piece from @nftsmodelmaking Module 1: 1:6 scale African tribal mask. Based on an original Chokwe mask. Sculpted in @monsterclayusa then silicone moulded and slush cast in PU resin.
