Of Faith and Football. National Duty. We had the honour and privilege of styling, casting and doing location recce alongside KASIFLAVOUR10 for @kasiflavour10 @soccerbible and @adidasza Kabelo Kungwane of @kasiflavour10 and I go way back, we founded the Creative Collective know as The Sartists in 2014 with the intention of reflecting beautiful South African stories we felt were often neglected in mainstream media. He was there with us when we founded our label WANDA LEPHOTO working with us as Co-Creative Director. We were there in the early days and foundation of @kasiflavour10 as collaborator, friend and family. This project is a reflection of our love,friendship, our respective work and conversations of the last 15 years. A lot of research has gone into this project, referencing archival imagery of South African tribes, conversations with collaborators a relationship we’ve cultivated over years with several Churches, traditional artisanal practitioners commissioned to create traditional pieces. A passing down of knowledge from those who knew more than us about the significance of faith and tradition, where things came from, what they meant and nuanced education in our attempt at a cultural fusion where athletic silhouettes were layered with references to heritage, identity, and storytelling.
