🏫Do Something Different Day 2025
A quick throwback to last year when Simon and I met colleagues in Cardiff for “Do Something Different Day” (DSDD). DSDD is a brilliant opportunity to meet other librarians from Cardiff University, Bath University and Bristol University to share our experiences and ways in which we can offer a better service to our customers. Last year, Simon went to the Trevithick Library, and Chloe went to Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture.
🏫Do Something Different Day 2026
This DSDD we had the pleasure of hosting staff from Bristol and Cardiff Universities. Each brought a unique insight into their personal library experience, and we hope they enjoyed getting to see behind the scenes of both Barry library and our Barry Makerspace.
Last Wednesday, Simon visited the Bristol Creative Lab and on Thursday, Chloe went to Trevithick Library. Keep your eyes peeled to see behind the scenes of both visits next week 👀
“Join us at our 50th Anniversary Open Day to play historical, fantasy figure games, role playing (D&D) and board games alongside other local groups and Penarth Library Makerspace” @penarthwargames
👩🎨Makerspace warmly invites you to “New Futures: Me in Miniature” a student art exhibition, in collaboration with Cardiff and Vale College @cavcinsta
🏫This event will highlight a variety of mixed media artworks, as well as the journeys and achievements of the New Futures students from Cardiff and Vale College for the 2025/26 academic year.
🐍This year’s talented students have developed laser cut jewellery, a zine about time travel and an accessory for a snake enclosure.
👀Why not pop along and immerse yourself in something new?

📍Barry Library Makerspace
We’re excited to announce the recipients of our library residency opportunities.
Dela Anderson - Print Residency
During my residency I will explore nostalgia for lost leisure spaces in Barry and Penarth. Engaging with local literature, archival images and oral histories, I’ll produce a risograph printed zine that reflects on our relationship to leisure and public space.
/////
Yn ystod fy mhreswyliad byddaf yn archwilio hiraeth am ofodau hamdden colledig yn Y Barri a Phenarth. Drwy ymwneud â llenyddiaeth leol, delweddau archifol a hanesion llafar, byddaf yn cynhyrchu zine risograff fydd yn ystyried ein perthynas gyda gofodau hamdden a gofodau cyhoeddus.
Mab Jones - Makerspace Residency
Your Words Belong Here Too by Mab Jones is a participatory poetry residency transforming community-contributed words into wearable text pieces and growing installations using reclaimed materials and textile techniques. The project will culminate in a celebratory community sharing event.
/////
Preswyliad barddoniaeth cyfranogol yw Your Words Belong Here Too gan Mab Jones sy’n trawsnewid geiriau a gyfrannwyd gan y gymuned yn ddarnau testun y gellir eu gwisgo, a gosodweithiau sy’n tyfu, gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau adferedig a thechnegau tecstilau. Penllanw’r project fydd digwyddiad rhannu cymunedol dathliadol.
