Block Party Contributor Highlight: Captura ATL @captura.atl
Isa Sanchez of Captura ATL will run a free Natural Lighting Photography Workshop from 2 - 4 PM! Open to photographers of all experience, Isa will offer visitors insight and instruction on how to harness natural lighting sources for their photography. White cards and reflectors will be provided so you need only bring a camera, if you’d like. Participants will meet in the ACP Reading Room (main entrance area) to begin!
Expect a full day of art, food, music, and all-ages activities in collaboration with local businesses, arts organizations, and community partners.

Our Open Exhibition is a one-day, all-inclusive showcase, open to all photographers and lens-based artists, with every submission accepted.

That song came on the trending list today while I was putting this post together and I almost lost it. That was one of the first worship songs that really broke me open when I started going to Victory World Church, the first church where I truly felt welcome. I used to belt that song out with everything in me.
“Break my heart for what breaks yours. Everything I am for your kingdom’s cause.”
I asked God to use me. For years, that was my prayer. Use me. Make me usable. And I won’t pretend that this journey has been what I imagined. It came at a price I would give anything to undo. My baby girl. But I believe Hayley’s life and her story are part of why I’m standing here today, talking to workers and voters across this state, fighting for the people nobody fights for.
And then there’s Joey.
Joey is the reason I’m still in this work. There is no version of this story without him. He’s the one who believed in building the Democratic Party the way it should be built. He grew up in it. His parents were in the Peace Corps. This wasn’t a career move for him. It was his whole heart. He called it Evolove. Evolution and Love, spelled the same way forwards and backwards.
And he paid for it. He stood up to corruption, called out the BS, and tried to do it with love. But he wasn’t afraid of confrontation when it mattered. And they made him pay for that. He got kicked out of Democratic Party meetings. He got arrested at meetings he had every right to attend. Somebody was so petty they mailed him a bag of gummy dicks. That’s how they treated a man who just wanted the party to live up to its own values.

Join us Saturday, December 6th at 1:00pm at @vaquitafleamarket ’s 7th Avenue East Corridor, for the grand opening of Gracias por Compartir, a photo exhibition and walk through gallery that will remain open until March 1st of 2026.
In partnership with Vaquita Creativa, members of Captura had the opportunity to participate in a photo-walk through La Vaquita Flea market during their Fiestas Patrias event capturing moments of celebration, small businesses, family, food and more.
Beyond capturing those moments, club members had the opportunity to connect with guests, vendors, talent and market team members, truly immersing themselves in the vibrant community the market has to offer.

Is a week of giving and these photos are a little recap of 20 years of solid friendships with ups and downs all is learning lessons and GROWTH. Captura had the opportunity to be the 2025 jurors for the @gwinnettlibrary photo annual, with this years theme being “lost and found”. We received over 200 submissions for review, the vast majority of which were local to metro Atlanta. We saw so many interpretations of this theme, some more literal and others more introspective and diving into deeper questions of identity, culture, and belonging. Thank you to everyone who attended our juror panel and congratulations to all selected photographers (some of which were familiar faces!) 🤎 📸
