Join artist Levon Kafafian @visionsoftransition and scholar Marie-Aude Baronian @mbaronian for the 2026 Dr. Berj H. Haidostian Distinguished Lecture, hosted by the U-M Center for Armenian Studies, Threading the Tapestry for a Future Armenia, this Thursday, March 12, from 6–8 p.m. in 1010 Weiser Hall.
The conversation reflects on Kafafian’s textile-based artistic practice and themes explored in their exhibition, Հմայարան / Hmayaran, on view in the International Institute Gallery March 12–30, 2026.

Dzoveni is a spirit from Azadistan, a magical ✨world set in post-digital collapse Southwest Asia .
she is the mother of all, the supreme navigatrix, the spirit of the waves themselves 🌊
if you didn’t know, i make all the costume pieces: beaded leather harnesses, dyed silks, sewn robes, handwoven elements. 🧿💅🏼

ArteEast is thrilled to feature Levon Kafafian (they/them) in Hikayat’s Conjuring Mythologies, as part of the 2025 International Human Rights Festival. We will present a program of performances rooted in conjuring mythologies of historical, contemporary, and speculative figures from the SWANA region.
⚡Kafafian will embody a spirit being from their ongoing speculative world building project, Azadistan, in Ծովէնի Մայր [mother of the sea].
