Tine Melzer fragt, wie Wörter und Bilder sich gegenseitig beeinflussen. Der Drang zu verstehen ist tief im menschlichen Kognitionsapparat verankert. Das ist einerseits eine Überlebensstrategie, es bedeutet Reduktion von Unsicherheit und Schaffung von Transparenz. Andererseits gibt es eine Tradition, die von Aristoteles über die Aufklärung bis zur protestantischen Arbeitsethik reicht, die Transparenz, Begründbarkeit, das Sichtbarmachen von Absicht privilegiert. Kunst muss erklärbar sein, Praxis muss legitimiert werden. Es gibt jedoch auch Traditionen, die Formen künstlerischen Handelns kennen, die Opazität, Schweigen oder Nicht-Verstehen als gleichwertige oder überlegene Modi behandeln. Tine Melzers Aspektsehen ist im Grunde ein Versuch, genau das zurückzugewinnen: den Moment, in dem etwas kippt, in dem die eingeübte Lesart versagt und das Ding kurz wieder fremd wird. Sozusagen der Übungsraum für das Aushalten von Fremdheit, Ambiguität, Nicht-Verstehen und Opazität. Etwas als etwas anderes hören. Simeon Sigg begleitet Tine Melzer mit einer Klangintervention. Der Abend ist Teil einer Veranstaltungsreihe, die von Vinzenz Meyner (@vinziklein ) und Simeon Sigg (@simeonsigg ) initiiert wurde und in einem selbstorganisierten Rahmen stattfindet. The series focuses on talks, sound art, and audiovisual performance practices, with a particular emphasis on spatial and multichannel formats, presented in a artist-driven context. There will be food and drinks. Ana Jikia’s (@water_nap ) musical practice blends her original compositions with already existing material. She explores how sounds travel, join and create through layering, and contrast across textures, dynamics, and emotional states. Her work explores how creation and experience are structured, treating composition and listening as interdependent processes, and uncovering overlooked connections between production and reception while revealing hidden narratives within the material’s untapped potential. Avia (@avia__x ) is a Basel-based DJ and cultural producer working at the intersection of club culture, contemporary art, and experimental sound. Her genre-spanning mixes weave ambient textures with club-oriented intensity, creating atmospheric soundscapes that move between the present moment and speculative futures. Vinzenz Meyner (@vinziklein ) and Simeon Sigg (@simeonsigg ) present Research Tapes, an evolving audiovisual series exploring human-made systems that increasingly drift beyond human perception and control. Moving between sound and image, the work reflects on abstraction, mediation, and speculative ways of re-thinking the structures we have created. Vom 10. Januar bis 24. Mai 2026 zeigen wir in der Bar des @cabaretvoltaire.ch die Poster-Serie «Im Kopf von F. G.», die sich mit Friedrich Glausers 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘵 auseinandersetzt. Während der Ausstellungsdauer werden die Arbeiten durch eine Reihe interdisziplinärer Veranstaltungen aktiviert. Zu jeder Soirée werden unterschiedliche Plakate aus der Serie an die Wände der Künstler*innenkneipe gekleistert. On Friday, January 9, 2026, we open «Im Kopf von F.G.», a poster series dedicated to Friedrich Glauser, «the reluctant Dadaist,» by Zurich-based artist Vinzenz Meyner @vinziklein (*1983). Although Glauser did not consider himself part of the Dada movement, he was closely connected to it. He participated in Dada soirées, read his own texts, and even «played the tambourine» after meeting Tristan Tzara and Marcel Janco through the painter Max Oppenheimer. His ties to the Dada circle extended beyond Zurich to Ascona on Monte Verità, where he also socialized with the group. Glauser’s life, marked by drug addiction, legal incapacitation, and repeated stays in psychiatric institutions, only gained broader recognition some twenty years later through his crime novels, including «Wachtmeister Studer» and «Matto regiert.» Meyner’s 16 digital drawings «Im Kopf von F.G.» engage with the novel «Matto regiert» as well as its film adaptation. They were originally created in 2021 for the group exhibition «Zirkuliere!» at Helmhaus Zürich. For Cabaret Voltaire, the works are now being reactivated with a series of interdisciplinary soirées between January and April. For each event, different posters from the series will be pasted onto the walls of the Artists’ Bar, featuring contributions by, among others: Selina Sigg @jhcftvhgbj , @sophie_germanier , Mathieu Bessey @mathieubessey , Simeon Sigg @simeonsigg , Daniel Morgenthaler @helmhaus_zuerich , Nina Arnold. In line with Meyner’s artistic practice, the drawings function as interfaces that make it possible to enter into dialogue with other participants. Through these encounters, new readings and perspectives on the content and formal qualities of the drawings emerge. The respective counterpart plays a key role—as a medium, mediator, or even co-author. The full program with dates will be presented on January 9. At the opening, Salome Hohl, Director of Cabaret Voltaire, introduce Meyner and Glauser. Daniel Morgenthaler and Nina Arnold will speak about the exhibition «Zirkuliere!» at Helmhaus.
