Did this awhile ago to file and with the primary elections less than 100 days away, catch me on the primary ballot in St. Mary’s County, MD as a candidate for the position as a member on the Democratic Central Committee of St. Mary’s County.
Now what’s a Democratic Central Committee? Each county in MD and Baltimore City has its own local central committee to manage party affairs in its jurisdiction. Central committee members are grassroots volunteers elected at primary elections every four years ONLY. Any registered Democrat can run for a seat on their county’s central committee. To advance the party’s principles and help elect Democrats to public office, committee members register/assist voters, staff events, work at polls and phone banks, provide resources, and support the party organization. The committee also does recommendations of appointments to the Governor for the county board of elections, and helps to fill vacancies in certain elected offices.
After election by the voters, some local central committee members are unable to serve. When circumstances warrant it, the State central committee then appoints new members to replace those who have resigned, moved, or died.
I’ve been appointed as a Democratic Central Committee member of St. Mary’s back in early 2024 (and I’m currently the youngest and only Asian American) and have learned so much since then. I’ve been so fortunate to support our Democratic candidates running for office, help host events, getting out the vote, run our social media, meet so many new people, and had the honor of meeting many elected officials at the local, state, and federal level. So I’ve decided to file to keep my position, even though I’m running unopposed.
I like remind people the primary elections are on June 23, 2026 in Maryland. The primary elections of each political party will decide who will be on the general election ballot for this November’s general election. Maryland has closed primary elections. If you wish to vote for me, then you must be living in St. Mary’s County and be a registered Democrat.
