⨠Thank You â¨Â
After 9 incredible years of transforming walls into works of art, weâre officially closing the chapter on Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF). Itâs been an unforgettable journey, and none of it would have been possible without YOU â our community of artists, volunteers, partners, and mural enthusiasts.
This decision was not made lightly. Like many arts and non-profit organizations, we have faced growing financial challenges in the past years. Despite our best efforts and significant progress to stabilize the organization, it is no longer viable for us to continue.
Together, weâve brought colour, culture, and conversation to the streets of Vancouver. Weâve celebrated creativity, uplifted diverse voices, and shown the world the power of public art. VMF wasnât just a festival; it was a movement fueled by connection, collaboration, and an unshakable love for this city.
While VMF may be coming to an end, the impact of its murals, festivals, and programs will continue to inspire Vancouverâs cultural landscape for years to come. These works of art stand as a testament to what is possible when creativity, collaboration, and community come together.
Thank you for supporting us, cheering us on, and making VMF something truly special.
With gratitude,
The VMF Team
THATâS A WRAP! â¨
THANK YOU for another amazing Vancouver Mural Festival!
We are beyond grateful to all the incredible artists, performers, vendors, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and our amazing community for coming together and bringing vibrant art to the streets of Vancouver. Your creativity, energy, and support make this festival truly special.
Hereâs to celebrating more art, culture, and connection â see you next year!

In issue 10 of @riverdistrictlivingmagazine we are so happy to feature talented artist Rory Doyle, the artist who created the mural âLegWorkâ which we are so lucky to have here in River District!
Rory is a Vancouver based artist with a background spanning over 20 years; evolving from a 3D production artist to full time freelance artist specializing in large scale murals, fine art, illustration and packaging. His work finds emotion in the viewer through vibrant palettes; having colour, figures and shapes tell stories. It often celebrates surrounding community, its diversity, engagement with each other and their city. Traditional and non-traditional relationships of shapes and colour mirror this while creating balance and functionality in both the piece itself and the architecture that surrounds it. âĄď¸ swipe to see some of Roryâs amazing artwork!
Â
Here is what Rory has to say about his mural and our beautiful community!
âLegWorkâ is inspired by its surrounding environment â Outdoors on a walking path, promoting healthy living via vitamin D and movement. Its palette celebrates diversity in both colour and style. The focus on legs and forward motion also serves as a reminder to do the legwork in a time of oversaturated shortcuts and misinformation.Â
Â
When I visit River District, it feels very community based like its own sub-city. There was no shortage of engagement from the families on their walks along the pathway while painting âLegWorkâ. Everyone I encountered was very friendly. I also think itâs great having urban living near the Fraser River.
Thank you for creating this wonderful mural for our community, Rory! đŠľđ¨

In Issue 9 of @riverdistrictlivingmagazine we are thrilled to have featured the talented Julie Solvstrom, a Danish illustrator and lettering artist living in Vancouver, and the artist behind one of our newest @vanmuralfest River District murals âHome To Allâ đŠľđ¨
Here, Julie describes âHome To Allâ and the special connection between nature and her work: â¨â¨Nature has a very big place in my heart. Animals, plants and flowers are often featured in my work. I spend as much time as possible outdoors - hiking, biking or paddling a kayak up the beautiful waters of BC.â¨â¨Through my work, I hope to inspire others to connect with nature, embrace their creativity, and appreciate the beauty in the world around us.
â¨âHome To Allâ is a celebration of the natural beauty and wildlife that enriches the local River District community.â¨â¨I want the mural to be a reminder that our shared spaces are not only our own, they belong equally to all the animals and plants that call this place home. I think itâs important that we keep asking ourselves if we are living in harmony, with responsibility and respect for our natural co-inhabitants.â¨
Thank you so much for this beautiful mural Julie, we are so lucky to have it in our community â¤ď¸đđŚđżď¸
âĄď¸ Swipe to see the full mural as well as some of Julieâs positive, colourful and playful lettering and illustration pieces featured in brand collaborations, printed goods and murals!â¨

Full shot of my mural at the new @lasallevancouver campus located at 2710 Kaslo St.
Â
The mural is 180 feet long, for a total of 4,500 square feet. It took just about six weeks to complete, with around 10 days lost to rain and other construction site-related reasons.
Â
This was by far my biggest and most intense project to date, and yet it was somehow one of the least stressful, despite all the challenges that we faced. This is because some amazing people had my back throughout the whole process. All the logistics, production, management, and moral support were handled by @britanylawrence and @ekib . I donât want to imagine what this project wouldâve been like without the help of these two and everyone behind the scenes at @vanmuralfest that made this job possible.
Â
I would also like to thank all the wonderful volunteers that came out to help. While I was up in the lift working on the upper half, they were on the ground working on the bottom half. Iâve never had to manage a group of people before, so that was a great learning experience. It was also interesting having to articulate and teach these techniques that have become second nature. Honourable mention goes to my guy @lemon___peel , who stuck it out with me during the whole sketching phase and repeatedly showed up to help out for the duration of the project.
Â
Shoutout to all these people. If I missed anyone, please let me know.

I also have to thank my girl, @kristenliston , for dealing with me in burnout mode and letting me repeatedly use this job as an excuse to get out of plans and chores.
I have so much more I could say about this project; this is me trying to keep it brief. So if you have any questions about any aspect of the mural process, donât hesitate to ask.

In Issue 8 of @riverdistrictlivingmagazine we we lucky to be able to feature Spencer Pidgeon as our Feature Artist.
Spencer Pidgeon is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Vancouver, Canada, working alongside brands and founders to bring their creative visions to life through bold, thoughtful and expressive work. Spencer draws inspiration from nature and human connection, and he approaches each project with curiosity and a sense of humour.
Spencerâs mural âEverything is Connectedâ was part of the 2023 @vanmuralfest and you can find it along the Fraser River in River District, home to Vancouverâs largest outdoor mural gallery!
âEverything is Connectedâ explores the connection between the physical and metaphysical worlds. Each shape is inspired by the natural environment that surrounds us, the built environment weâve created and the metaphysical environment of the mind. The motifs are arranged in such a way that allows the viewer to create their own connections between these seemingly disparate worlds and get lost in the process.
We are so grateful to be home to this incredible mural - thank you so much @spencerpidgeon đđŠľ
