This is one of my favourite pieces. A lovely little composite creature painted and custom framed by myself for @voiceofjacob

Advent has begun and I am always reminded of Mary -- She was so young, alone, and frightened but she was also so surrounded by God's promise.
"46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name."
- Luke 1:46-49 NIV
A little window into my process! I've worked hard to make this a calming space and it brings me so much peace.
Bonus points if you can guess how many plants are growing in my little sanctuary!

Ya' girl writes poetry! I've been meaning to write about the experience of painting in church so here it is:
It's more than just augmenting my attention span - for me painting in church is inviting God into the most vulnerable parts of me and, together, we create beauty out of the mess.

I've been holding on to this for a while. Years actually.
This is a poetic essay/ story about the beauty to be found in the darkest of places, hope, love, wonder, and the patient grace I've been so fortunate to receive through a lot of it. I'm attempting to tell my story and experience with depression in a way that also encourages others.
Finally, it features my most recent Sunday Stains along with a new painting that was inspired by @sanctuarymentalhealth 's concert in October.

"Fall" as painted on Sunday August 27th.
Fall is a funny word, it carries so many different connotations. Some are sad or even negative but I chose to understand fall as an opportunity for rest, warmth, and colour. Similarily this this week's Sunday Stain is about just that.
Enjoy the "rest" of your week. (Pun is definitely intended and I feel no shame).

Sunday Stain! "Strength and Peace" was painted this most recent Sunday.
It is loosely inspired by a nearby forest walk. Extra points if you can guess where!
It's another Sunday Stain!
This one's one of my favorites. It's a personal reflection on the many cycles and seasons of life.
Particularly it was painted as a celebration of more recent feelings of hope and peace even while respecting and understanding that the work done during the darkness is what let's me be able to celebrate the day.
Sunday Stain: Space
Ironically, this Sunday I needed space from the sanctuary and painted in the lobby until worship started again.
I'm reminded that this art style evolved from letting my neices and nephew play with my paints. I looked at the mass of colors left behind and decided to try and make something beautiful from the chaos.
It feels fitting that I would use this art style to rewrite the narrative of anxiety I feel in church too.
I have a back up of Sunday Stains so here's one from a few weeks back.
The sermon was about Peter walking on water with Jesus and its a story I feel can be over represented as an act of faith but what struck me this time was the gentleness I heard in Jesus' invitation to Peter in spite of his fear and confusion.
The storm is often terrifying but we can still find peace in the center.

Sunday Stains are back!
This last year I decided to take a break from church and focus on my mental health as I was having regular anxiety attacks whenever I attended.
Recently something has changed and I feel an immense sense of peace and freedom as I heal.
This piece is the result of a recent Sunday morning as I sat in the pews and worshiped in my own way.
