Light Trap #5, 2026 / From the series Light Trap
— Light Trap Beneath the veil, a held beast. Its eyes rise, the rest sinks. This new series grows out of my ongoing work on the pack. It was born under the Irish sun, by chance, drawn from long hours spent watching camera-trap footage to follow the wolf. Here, the animal stands behind a veil, perhaps waiting for a sun that would pierce it and set it free. Every living being carries the same hunger: to devour the sun. A lost intimacy, hidden beneath the warmth of our palms.

When the light has fallen and all beings have fallen silent, the pack will remain. At the top of the dune, as the sun sets in its sand-laden arms, the fires still burning illuminate what remains of the village. In the distance, a bristling creature rises, then a second, their amber eyes gleaming like jewels of the dead. She now rules this place. These ruins belong to her.

Valentin Degnieau – The Watcher of the Depths, @artaisartcontemporain
On the occasion of his residency at the Albers Foundation in Ireland, Valentin Degnieau invites us into his world. He keeps watch over the grounded beings and the passages through landscapes. His work stands as a poignant and striking testimony, caught between issues of territory and the tipping points to come. Here, nothing is a dream — we behold reality in its most remarkable splendor.
“The unease of the night awakens us. There, in the depths, a glimmer flickers and guides us. The contours of the landscape dissolve, letting our doubts, our imaginings, and sometimes our fears emerge. Valentin Degnieau’s studio then becomes a cavern — a secluded place where ideas take shape, are tested, and put to the test. Countless collected and catalogued objects are preserved there, like fragments of memory. Images of wolves, print prototypes, materials in transformation escape and compose a presence both enigmatic and mystical. Between ruins and rewilding, Valentin gently opens new doors.”
