We’re breaking our Instagram silence with some fantastic news (and a Taylor Swift song) - 2 years ago we were approached by the home owners of our favourite house in the heart of the Marshalswick area of St Albans.
It’s been an absolute honour to work with these clients who had a huge vision for transforming their already very modern home.
Two planning applications and a planning appeal later - we have full planning permission.
We say this word a lot but this is EPIC.
Architecturally this house is already a gem, and now it has a little bit of that Uskuri Theobald magic added to turn it from great to goosebumps (if we do say so ourselves….) ✨

Planning Permission: GRANTED ✅
We are thrilled that this beautiful new-build family home we dreamed up and designed has received full planning permission - and we couldn’t be prouder.
Set within the Metropolitan Green Belt within Harpenden and a tightly controlled Conservation Area, this was never going to be easy. But with deep respect for the local character and a carefully considered design, extremely patient clients and a great planning consultant, we’ve secured approval - and what a result.
Inspired by local barns and landmark buildings in the area, our design responds directly to its surroundings:
- Single-storey, barn-style form
- Pitched roofs and gable ends
- Brick piers to mimic stable doors
- Beautiful green detailing throughout a nod to the neighbouring homes and a neighbouring listed buildings heritage colour.
Every element was designed to sit quietly and confidently in its context, from the multi-stock brick and clay tiles to the green glazed bricks that tie the whole palette together.
To say we’re thrilled is an understatement.

We’re thrilled this deisgn has been signed off by our client and is heading into Planning.
We’ve reworked the internal reconfiguration, added a rear extension and loft conversion to create a stunning and functional family home by the coast.
We are also thrilled to be working alongside @elisadesign.co.uk for the first time as the interior designer on this very exciting project.
This project is working directly alongside @ab_construction_group as a project they bought to us a Design and Build collab.
We can work many ways here at UTA - As a clients architect first and we tender the project to multiple builders or working directly alongside a clients pre-chosen builder from the get to.

We’ve secured planning for a lovely family home in Harpenden, where we’re adding a few small extensions and reworking the internal layout to make the space really work for modern family life. 🏡
