Throughout his years as a campus leader, Sumit Jadhav has joined USF World’s international stole ceremony to congratulate international students as they graduated. Often speaking of his own journey as an international student feeling lost on campus only to find a path that led him to become student body vice president and then president for the last academic year, Jadhav put words to the unique experience at USF that draws students from around the world. ‌ Last week, it was Jadhav’s turn to graduate as he completed his master’s degree in financial analytics. His message at one of the two stole ceremonies hosted by USF World resonated especially deeply for our campus community, as well as for current and future international students at USF. In recognition of the contributions Jadhav has made during his time as a campus leader as well as his thoughtful reflections, we share a transcript of his remarks in celebration of the important and rich contributions international students make to our university’s community. “That is the quiet superpower of every international student in this room,” he told the audience of students, friends and family members. “You didn't just earn a degree. You did it in a second language, in a foreign system, thousands of miles from the people who raised you.” Join us in celebrating these super students who are now new USF alums! Link to the story and to photos (see links at the bottom of the story) from the stole ceremonies are in the comments. #usf #usfcommencement #USFgrads #Classof2026 #GoBulls

A huge moment for our Network Colombia community: @thatfairyoftech Maria Zapata took the stage as the 2026 commencement speaker for master’s degree recipients. Maria moved the entire room as she reflected on her journey to the United States. She shared how her family once only had enough money for one plane ticket to the U.S., and despite the challenges she faced, she carried her mother’s words with her every step of the way: “Be your own fairy godmother." And she did just that. Through moments of uncertainty and days when she did not even have enough food to eat, Maria persevered and continued pushing forward against all odds. Now, next Tuesday, she begins an exciting new chapter in Austin, Texas, with Apple. Maria is a true testament to the strength, resilience, and spirit of our Network Colombia community. We are incredibly proud of her and all of our graduating Colombian students as they begin their next chapters. @usfbellini @usfalumni

Earlier this month, the University of South Florida recognized 13 faculty and staff members whose work expanded students’ learning opportunities and strengthened the university’s international reach with the 2026 Global Excellence Awards.   In this week’s spotlight, we celebrate Lauren Roberts is Assistant Director of the Office of National Scholars at the University of South Florida. She advises and mentors students pursuing nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, with a focus on academic achievement and student development. Roberts is a national and international leader in expanding access to global education whose advocacy has enabled record numbers of USF students—particularly Pell‑eligible, first‑generation, and STEM students—to pursue transformative study, research, and service experiences abroad. Join us in congratulating Lauren!
