We are thrilled to announce that award-winning artist Matthew Rosier and leading socially engaged public art organisation @upprojects will be bringing a major new artwork to Barnet this year! Large-scale projection, oral histories, nature recordings, an original score, and community participation will all be part of this highly ambitious artwork that explores Barnet’s role as a place of arrival and a home. The artwork, Ascendance, will be unveiled in November 2026, during a free multi-day arts and culture festival forming the celebratory finale of the Light + Flight programme. “As an artist drawn to how places and people came to be, it’s so exciting to be creating an artwork that will make this visible. Barnet to me represents what I love about my home city: the multitudes of stories, journeys and landscapes that somehow hold each other together. This is what we will come together to celebrate in Ascendance.” – @mfprosier Sign up to our Arts & Culture newsletter to stay updated on all things Ascendance and upcoming opportunities to get involved. 🔗 in our bio. #LightAndFlight #ArtInBarnet #CreativeCommunities Light + Flight is presented by Art in Barnet. Congratulations to our Constellations ° Cohort alumna @manon_awst who today alongside @dylan__huw has launched their exhibition at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2026. Representing Wales at Venice as it presents for the first time in seven years, ‘Sownd’ is a sculptural environment built of raw materials sourced between north Wales and the Venetian lagoon. The Cymraeg (Welsh) title ‘Sownd’ – meaning both “stuck” and “structurally sound” – reflects the project’s focus on the precariously layered histories held within minoritised language cultures. Taking place between Venice’s fragile ecologies and the “minor” cultural depths of Wales, Sownd proposes an architecture of entanglement where language, material and landscape converge. 📷@emma.underhill @walesinvenice

ChalleNGe is Nottingham's city-wide partnership of arts organisations, education settings, community groups and young people. They collaborate on programmes that make a difference to children and young people's lives - focusing on access to arts, culture and creativity. Join us at tomorrow’s online Constellations ° Assembly ‘A Right to Decide: Empowering Children to Shape Cultural Space’, which will explore how public art and co-creation can help shape Child Friendly Cities in the UK and beyond. You’ll hear from speakers including Cathy Mahmood, who has been managing the ChalleNGe Partnership since early 2019. Leading the Local Cultural Education Partnership for Nottingham, Mahmood convenes an ambitious programme for and with children and young people in the city, inspiring collaboration across a wide range of arts partners, schools and community organisations. As Nottingham works towards recognition as a Child Friendly City, this conversation connects local practice to international examples, including Helsinki. From a flagship schools programme, the Cultural Rucksack, to Summer Art Pop Up and Family Arts Explorer programmes, Cathy connects people, funding and projects that celebrate creativity and empower young people's voices. 🗓️6 May 2026 🕒14:00–15:15 BST 📍 Online 🔗 Book now via the link in bio

Enfield of Dreams is bringing together people who would not usually share the same space - young people, artists, teachers, schools and cultural organisations. Not to be briefed or to agree, but to begin the real work of shaping what culture in Enfield could become. At our recent ‘Ways of Working’ gathering, participants selected via open call and the project’s steering team stepped into that challenge together. From co-creating sculptures in silence to opening up conversations around principles of radical access, the focus was on building trust, testing ideas and rethinking how collaboration can happen. Facilitated by Chloe Osborne and Penny Skerrett, the sessions created space for everyone to explore how they will co-create ambitious projects and a creative learning programme for Enfield’s public realm and schools over the next two years. We were also joined by our partners and Creative Cluster hosts - @border_crossings , @chickenshed_uk , @dyspla_festival , @facefronttheatre and @highrise_uk - each bringing their own perspectives into the conversation. This gathering was about setting the conditions for meaningful, shared work - watch this space as the project unfolds. @enfieldyoungcreatives @enfieldculturenetwork

In 2024, Helsinki became the first Nordic capital to receive UNICEF’s Child-Friendly City award, recognising its ongoing commitment to embedding children’s rights across all areas of city life. Grounded in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, this work ensures that children and young people are supported to grow and develop safely, whilst having a voice in decisions that shape their environment. Helsinki’s Chief of Children’s Culture Pirjetta Mulari will present Helsinki’s project ‘Culture Kids’ our upcoming online Constellations ° Assembly ‘A Right to Decide: Empowering Children to Shape Cultural Space’. As part of their approach, Helsinki’s ‘Culture Kids’ project creates opportunities for children to influence the cultural and leisure activities available to them. Through facilitated sessions using drawing, writing and discussion, children are invited to share their ideas about how they want to spend their free time. These contributions are then used to shape the city’s cultural programming, ensuring it reflects their needs, interests and experiences. Alongside being in charge of city level development of children's culture, Pirjetta Mulari is also director of @annantalo Arts Centre. 🗓️6 May 2026 🕒14:00–15:15 BST 📍 Online 🔗Book now to hear from Mulari via the link in bio 📷 1. Primary’s ‘Build Create Play’ (2019- 2024) was a long-term project working with local families and young people around Ronald Street Playground in Radford, Nottingham. Located opposite @weareprimary , the playground was a neglected space identified for redevelopment. Artists Gina Mollett, Charlotte Tupper and Ismail Khokon delivered experimental play sessions exploring materials, shapes and colours that sparked children’s imaginations, while also building an understanding of how the playground was used and how it might be improved. Following years of sustained engagement with local children, working in partnership with playworkers from The Toy Library, ‘Build Create Play’ evolved to include the creation of a public artwork that reflected their ideas about play, designed by artist Ismail Khokon and funded by Nottingham City Council. Rebecca Beinart, Collaborative Programme Lead at @weareprimary , will present 'Build, Create, Play' at our upcoming online Constellations ° Assembly ‘A Right to Decide: Empowering Children to Shape Cultural Space’. Beinart’s practice focusses on creating opportunities for artists to work with communities. 🗓️6 May 2026 🕒14:00–15:15 BST 📍 Online 🔗 Find out more and book now via the link in bio @beckybeinart @weareprimary @ismaildiverse @thetuppermuseum @thetoylibrarysince1978 @freddy.griffiths @nottmparks 📷 Ismail Khokon and Freddy Griffiths.

Toisissa Tiloissa collective’s project ‘Rhizome’ introduced schoolchildren to experimental physical learning at the Tehtaankatu elementary school in Helsinki. The project was commissioned by HAM Helsinki Art Museum (2020 - 2023). Across the project, children explored the concept of rhizomes from various perspectives, such as mycelium, the internet, electricity grids and language formation, introducing the pupils to non-hierarchical modes of thinking, learning and organisation. Sanni Priha of Toisissa Tiloissa will present ‘Rhizome’ at our upcoming online Constellations ° Assembly ‘A Right to Decide: Empowering Children to Shape Cultural Space’. 🗓️6 May 2026 🕒14:00–15:15 BST 📍 Online 🔗 Book now via the link in bio @toisissatiloissa @hamhelsinki @prihasanni 📷1. Event: Tasting Greenwich Park Early next week, join @upprojects & @theroyalparks Constellations artist-in-residence Leah Clements for this session in Greenwich Park, where we will be tasting some of the things grown here. We will gather together to focus on the sense of taste, and learn some more about the different herbs and vegetables that have come from the kitchen garden and orchard, particularly at this time of year. Leah’s work during her residency is exploring describing as artwork and access adjustment. During this session she invites you to share what you can see, hear, smell, feel, and of course taste. You might do this by sharing words, sounds, or gestures. This and following sessions are primarily for disabled/D/deaf/neurodivergent people, or people who are otherwise underserved in the local community. Email [email protected] or the Parks Access and Engagement Team: [email protected] for dates and times and access info, and to book. More workshops are coming up throughout April, please get in touch to hear more! There are also open studio sessions once a month, open to everyone and don’t need to be booked in advance. The next one coming up is this Saturday 11th April, 11am-1:30pm, St Mary’s Lodge. We hope to see you there! ID: A white hand holding an array of herbs, a background of soil below.
