Staged in the long shadow of Judy Garland’s history-making Carnegie Hall concert, this live extravaganza resurrects “the biggest night in show business history” through experimental lip synch—celebrating Garland’s legendary performance while excavating the labor, absurdity, and industry pressures that shaped how both she and the public viewed her body. Caroline Kittredge Faustine is a transsexual divorcée who has been working professionally in New York since 2010. She is a sound designer, stage director, and musician with credits from Sarajevo to St. Paul. She has a beautiful little cat named Jumpshot and a ten-foot asparagus fern she’s quite proud of. This Friday 1/2 - come see UC FUTURE / CLASSIC at @cassettenyc ! We are over the dang moon to welcome back Leilani Carr and Songs for the Album (Cont.). In 2024 Leilani started writing songs about the ups and downs of being polyamorous, trying to chase your dreams, and growing older. They now are beginning the journey of sharing their music in hopes to make people feel less alone in these feelings (and to find out if their actually any good at songwriting) Leilani is once again very excited, nervous and continuously grateful to Undiscovered Countries for giving them this opportunity to face their fears and share. Friday 1/2 - come see UC FUTURE / CLASSIC at @cassettenyc ! We’re thrilled to welcome back UC’s world traveler raphi soifer with my oblique pronouns. A musical romp in English and Portuguese exploring grammar, gender roles, and other asphyxiating systems of power. If Laurie Anderson and the late great Itamar Assumpção awaked and baked (awoke and boke?) and decided to make a Powerpoint for their fictional queer godchild, it might bear a passing resemblance to My Oblique Pronouns, at least in terms of punctuation and intention. Content notes: mention of colonialism, fascism, transphobia (ie, current affairs) raphi soifer (they/them) is a performer, researcher, and mess-maker whose work explores memories, territories, and dreaming in city spaces. Born and razed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, raphi lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they create street-based interventions, collaborate and conspire with local artistic collectives, and work as a visiting scholar at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. An ode to the past, present and future, wrapped up in flowers, grace, and money notes. This is a world dreamed up by Teena Marie in the 80s that still rings true this many years forward. As the words flow out of Lena Horné, let the spell it casts allow you to reach for the stars in every life you’re given. Lena Horné (@lenahornay ) is a mesmerizing powerhouse, combining her love for storytelling and her charisma to create tapestries of life, big and small.
