WEDNESDAY FABRIC SPOTLIGHT If you haven’t heard, I’ve listed my full fabric stock for sale on my website (link in bio) Today, I’m highlighting this DOUBLE-SIDED JACQUARD (i LOVE jacquards - so many options!) It’s a cotton/wool/lycra blend which means it’s WARM, SOFT and MOVES with you. You can cut in on the warp or the weft (I used the weft in production) and if I were making this for myself, I’d do the @smallmuseum_ Blanket Coat! Because this fabric is double sided, you don’t need to cut any facing. You will need bias tape to finish the ends and if you’re truly into adventure, you can cut it with an added seam allowance for flat-felled seams and make this fully reversible. There’s only enough yardage left for one coat. Don’t wait! When I started this line, I had a vision of printing my own fabrics. Overwhelmed by the majority of bad fabrics (it has and always will be about how the fabric feels) and pricing, I needed to pivot. Enter deadstock textiles. The choices were beautiful, exactly what I was trying to communicate and in amounts that kept the numbers low so the pieces could feel special. As is with all things, changes happen. In this case, those fabrics are becoming fewer and farther apart and the good ones more and more expensive. Not ready to begin custom printing, my only choice is has been to take a step back and re-evaluate. In that re-evaluation, the best choice for now is to close the doors on Under the Muumuu. This isn’t the end of designing for me, but this is the end of this story. And while I’ve been crying for the reality of closing something that has been a huge part of my life for the better part of the last 7 years, I’m genuinely excited to see what this space will bring for my creativity and the future. For everyone who has ever supported, I truly cannot thank you enough. It’s been wonderful making friends near and far, getting called out on the street and laughing together. I’ll miss the days of seeing you in the wild, looking absolutely fabulous and all the photos you send in. As of this moment, all prices on the site have been marked down and are final sale. If you are interested in anything made to order, please note that will be final sale as well. The site will remain open until Sunday, May 5th. I usually don't like to get "ready" but Iris in color no 30 demands it. While I thought about a get ready with me video, I figured since I'm not a beauty or fashion influencer, you didn't need that type of content coming from me. But, I did my makeup and then took a photo of it. Comment with questions if you're curious. It's more like a don't get ready with me, there's so little action haha! Recently, I saw a post sharing the work of @thandiwe_muriu (go look at her work now!) and felt a surge of feelings: excitement, confusion, desire (to name a few haha!). The patterns, the patterns on patterns, the colors - I wanted more of her work and I wanted to feel the feelings of her work. So I attempted it - lying on the floor because why not. This little shoot had me laughing! When was the last time I did something like this? When was the last time I had a creative thought, didn’t overthink it and just went for it? When I sat with it, it had been awhile. There’s so much we think we know based on what we see and there’s so much we don’t know based on everything that’s hiding underneath. I might be brave and wear big dresses with ease but underneath that is a woman who wonders “am I doing this right?”. I feel insecure when LA weather isn’t muumuu weather and I long for the sticky hot and humid days of New Orleans, especially when I’m pulling on a sweater in what should be the warmer days of spring and summer. It’s confusing. What is actually going on here?! The brain doesn’t like it. The brain wants easy. Predictable. It’s so easy for us to get trapped into a routine that we don’t have to think about. Wake at the same time, eat the same breakfast, throw on the same clothes (more or less), wear your hair the same way, same makeup (or none) and same tasks. Day in and day out. We become robotic. WE NEED TO BREAK FREE! That little photo shoot shocked me into wanting more but not quite being sure of what “more” is. Spontaneity? New creative outlets? Random things that make me laugh at myself? What is it you’re craving? What are you too scared to admit? If you yelled cut right now, what would it be for? (If you say a craft services snack break, that’s 100% okay haha! I’d agree with you).
