At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (@antalyadf ) in TĂŒrkiye, USG Mr. Miguel Ăngel Moratinos, High Representative for #UNAOC & UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, participated in a high-level panel discussion titled, âBias at Scale: Digitalization of Islamophobia and Racismâ.
đïž Addressing how social media, digital platforms and artificial intelligence are reshaping public discourse, Mr. Moratinos stressed, âWhat we are witnessing is not simply the spread of harmful content. It is the normalization of bias, where stereotypes are reproduced and amplified at scale."
"When algorithms prioritize outrage over accuracy, disinformation travels faster than truth & entire communities are pushed further to the margins," he said. âThe challenge is not to restrict expression, but to ensure accountability in how technologies shape and amplify it."

Celebrating #IbnRushd #Averroesâš
USG Miguel Ăngel Moratinos, High Representative for UNAOC & UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, launched a new initiative from CĂłrdoba, "The International Year of Averroes - Ibn Rushd: An Opportunity for Reasonâ, set to kick off this fall in partnership w/ @ayuncordoba_es , @casa_arabe & the Embassy of Morocco in Spain.
The launch marks the life & legacy of one of the greatest Arab thinkers, philosophers & scientists, Ibn Rushd, or Averroes, as he is famously known in đȘđž. AbĆ« al WalÄ«d Ibn RushdâAverroesâwas born on 14 April 1126 in the charming city of CĂłrdoba nine centuries ago. He died on 11 December 1198 in the equally charming city of Marrakesh đČđŠ.
CĂłrdoba is not only the place of his birth. It was the intellectual environment that shaped him: a city where law, medicine, philosophy & theology were pursued together, where Muslim, Jewish & Christian scholars engaged one another in a shared commitment to knowledge.
To reflect on #IbnRushd is therefore to reflect in context, where ideas were debated, refined & transmitted across civilizations.
In a world marked by polarization, he reminds us that differences need not lead to exclusion, although he himself was forced to live in exile in đČđŠ where he spent the rest of his life until he died in Marrakesh.
In an age tempted by simplification, he calls us back to nuance, humility & reasoning. Thatâs why he rightly earned the title Father of Rationalism. In fact, his name in Arabic, Rushd, translates into the very essence of reason & rationalism.
In a time where dialogue is too often portrayed as weakness, he offers a model of dialogue as intellectual confidence & moral strength.
There is also a deeper symbolism in the arc of his life: born in #CĂłrdoba and laid to rest in #Marrakeshâtwo cities that were among the great centers of learning of their time, on opposite shores of the Mediterranean. His life thus traced a human and intellectual bridge btwn al Andalus & North Africa, between cultures & traditions.
In life and in legacy, he reminds us that civilizations do not exist in isolation. They speak to one another, shape another & are enriched through connection.
The High Representative for UNAOC and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Mr. Miguel Ăngel Moratinos, met with the Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs (@momaindia ), Dr. Srivatsa Krishna, during his official visit to India.
They had a productive discussion on strengthening cooperation to promote dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
