Soundtrack for my Funeral: FREE Open Workshop Workshopping the Unknown April 25th, 2:30-3:30pm Capitol Modern | 2nd Floor Lanai Register at https://wkf.ms/4tKVQNQ Come watch how we're choreographing and rehearsing the unknown — from the everyday gestures of a life, improvising in the moment, and moving with what we cannot see. In this hybrid open rehearsal and workshop, you'll observe the dancers at work before joining in — exploring how we sense and describe what we experience without relying on sight. We'll close with a short audio description practice that will become part of the project's soundtrack. Wear comfortable clothes, bring a scarf or bandana, and a smart phone.

Hula is resistance. ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, the native Hawaiian language, was banned in 1896 after the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. For generations, English was the only language taught in schools and permitted in homes. But the language and culture lived on, preserved in the songs and practices of hula. "It’s been one of the key cultural practices that has helped us retain our language, our traditional practices, our history, and our genealogy, because it’s all buried in the chants that were composed a long time ago. Hula has been responsible for reclaiming lost traditions. We can dig into our Hawaiian history and pull out the stories to share with the next generation." - Vicky Holt Takamine, Executive Director of the PAʻI Foundation @paifoundation (StanceOnDance.com 2024) Footage of Pua Aliʻi ‘Ilima under the direction of nã kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine from the HoMA Nights x Shangri La Honors Nowruz with UH Mānoa Outreach College (March 20, 2026) presented by the @honolulumuseum @hi_shangrila and @uhpresents #hula #hulaisresistance #resistancemusic #alohaaina

I’m not crying, you’re crying… but also yeah, we were definitely crying. Thank you to the University of Hawai‘i for a panel that inspired something real. Stories were shared, walls came down, and for a moment, the whole room was connected. Grateful for the honesty, the vulnerability, and everyone who shared that space with us. This is why we do it. 🙏🏽 #MusicWithPurpose #HumanConnection #ArtAndActivism #LiveMusicMoments #ConsciousMusic @uhpresents @universityofhawaii
