We are saddened to hear of the death of David Bellos, academic, translator and writer who has passed away at the age of 80. The British Archive for Contemporary Writing is privileged to care for his literary translation archive. Last week we produced David Bellos's manuscripts, drafts and notes for his translation of George Perec's complex and harrowing work 'W or The Memory of Childhood'. MA literary translation students came to examine Bellos's working methods and gain insight into the translation process. The purpose of the literary archive is to preserve the working practices and creative genius of writers and translators so that our students and researchers can learn from the hands of great practitioners. We know that Bellos's work is already influencing the next generation of literary translators and that his legacy will continue. @bcltuea @uealdc @uealitfest norwichcityoflit #translation #davidbellos

How good do these archive copies of Phoenix look?! One of the fun things we get to do @ueaarchives is help our Alumnus reminisce about their time @uniofeastanglia These copies of the student newspaper from the 1980s pre date our beloved @concreteuea We actually hold examples of student journalism right back to the start of UEA in 1963. Along with press cuttings, prospectuses and student handbooks.

At UEA Archives we are priveledged to care for the notebooks and papers of Guy Stewart Callendar (1898-1964) The scientist who established the carbon dioxide theory of climate change. A noted steam engineer and amateur meteorologist Callendar worked from his home in W. Sussex on a truly global scale analysing world data and formulating a coherent theory of infrared absorption by trace gases. Callendar’s findings were published as ‘The Artificial Production of Carbon Dioxide and its Influence on Temperature’ Royal Meteorological Society Jnl., Vol. 64, 1938. You can see a display of his archive on floor 02 of UEA Library telling his extraordinary story. On floor 0 of UEA Library you can also find a display looking at the history of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. @climateuea @ueaenv @uealibrary

What a week! @noirwich Crime Writing Festival @sainsburycentre brought out the big crime writing stars @uealdc Oyinkan Braithwaite author of 'My Sister the Serial Killer' and now 'Cursed Daughters' gave a fascinating lecture on 'Can we stop killing each other?' examining the nature of the crime genre. Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher books was interviewed by Professor Henry Sutton. We were in the front row, with a select exhibition of the amazing Lee Child archive collection. What a delight thank you @uealitfest Photos by Luke Bryant, Tile Media
