A sincere thank you to @calvinrobertson , @brittdavis704 , DeAndre Holland @keptfrozen , James Huggins, Candace Charpentier, and @channingbailey for volunteering your time on a Wednesday afternoon to pour into a group of aspiring designers at an HBCU. 💙 Connecting students with working designers helps them see what’s possible.

@_tanyah._ and I have been planning this event all semester! A crafts night that creates opportunities for TSU art & psychology students to connect casually with area mental health providers through a mindful craft led by @studiobuffo11 from @coopgallery with pizza(Dominos) and brownies from @m_a_mitchell Great job Tanyah planning and getting the word out for this first ever programming at the newly named Nina Lovelace Center for Arts and Social Practice @tsuartanddesign Thanks to April and Candace for connecting TSU students and for the work you do daily in Nashville! Dive into @healinginthemargins where Candace does some of her work! #ninalovelacecenterforartsandsocialpracticeattsu #tsuartsandsocialpractice

Today we got to unveil the Nina Lovelace Center for Arts and Social Practice @tsuartanddesign What a joy to hear @dunsonart @kaleenasales and Dr. Cynthia Gadsen talk about their time in her classes at TSU. I took her African American History class c.1998/9 and it was one of the most foundational classes of my college career(undergrad or grad) I carved this Birch plank with a router and left the two vertical pieces blank for students over the next decades to add their names to hers. So grateful that her family, TSU students, and faculty took the time to give her her flowers ( @courtneyadairjohnson actually brought flowers) while she is here to enjoy them!!! #tsuartsandsocialpractice #ninanlovelacecenterforartsandsocialpractice note that she taught us about the #sankofa bird that can turn all the way around to see behind itself and how that is a foundational african idea that shows up in No Woman No Cry - “…in this great future you can’t forget your past…”

As graduation approaches, we are spotlighting May 2026 graduates! ✨ First up, meet Senait Womack 😊 Senait Womack is a Studio Arts major, minoring in History with a concentration in Africana Studies. She is a born and raised ATLien and serves as President of Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society, while also being an active member of the Honors College and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Her work centers on art as a tool for storytelling, community engagement, and historical reflection, with a focus on amplifying the voices of Black women across time. Senait has cultivated an ongoing partnership with McKissack Middle School through art and mentorship, designing and leading programs that center student voice, creativity, and identity. She has expanded this work through internships with Daybreak Arts and the Centennial Arts Center, supporting community-based programming, exhibitions, and artist engagement. Her practice includes co-creating the “Unbannable Book,” featured at the Frist Art Museum, Vanderbilt University, and local schools. Following graduation, she plans to pursue opportunities in arts management, museum work, or community-based arts programming, while continuing to work with youth through creative, expressive, and inclusive teaching practices. Congratulations, Senait!💙
