This introductory studio explores the richness and complexity of Arizona’s desert landscape as a site of artistic, architectural, agricultural, and collective experimentation. Through the media of architectural design, drawing, modeling, and other emergent formats, we will reflect on the interconnection of experimental creative communities encountered across our three-week immersive field experience based at the Kempner Institute in Mayer, Arizona. The School of Architecture is forging a new path while honoring the traditions, pedagogy, and philosophy of our past as the Taliesin Fellowship founded by Frank Lloyd Wright. We offer a contemporary design education based on Wright’s philosophy of learning by doing, experimentation, and building with the landscape. We strive to bring lasting innovation, equity, and sustainability to the diverse communities that we serve. TSOA’s Master of Architecture program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture. We are now offering rolling admissions! Apply to be a Master of Architecture Candidate today through the link in our bio. #tsoa #tsoarch #masterofarchitecture #architecturestudent #architectureschool

The Cast of Characters Design Seminar approaches architecture as a collection of figures, creatures, caricatures, characters, or monsters - spatial, material, and narrative objects that contain the cavity for life. For the final review, Dr. Renata Hejduk joined @0super in Suite J, bringing her perspective into dialogue with @tsoarch students as they presented the semester’s work. #tsoarch #tsoa #architecture #architectureschool #architecturestudent

This summer, in collaboration with the @pantheoninstitute of Rome, TSOA M. Arch III students will travel to Italy to join students from other universities like @pennstate so let’s throw it back to our 2018 Summer Semester in Rome. Pantheon Institute incorporates a wide range of on-site learning as part of our academic curriculum. These faculty-lead visits and excursions provide real-world learning opportunities to make thoughtful connections between theory and practice. Fostering collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, our coursework seeks to engage students directly with the environment around them as part of an immersive and transformative learning experience. Interested in a more local immersive experience? Check out the TSOA Summer Immersion Program through the link in our bio. #tsoa #tsoarch #architectureschool #rome #traveltuesday

ARC 689: PRE-THESIS SEMINAR with Adjunct Faculty member Marc J Neveu. This course aims to explore the potential and limitations that diverse tools played in the production and diffusion of architectural intelligence while providing tools for shaping new positions and discourses in the form of a thesis proposal; the written component of the final project; and a print and web based visualization and presentation of rigorous, original research. Focusing on historical precedents, students will investigate how certain strategies and mediums forged new forms of aesthetic, critical, conceptual, narrative, programmatic and technical positions. A rigorous research component will be followed by the development of new and known mediums of research and dissemination. Students will fully immerse on the construction of critical positions and discourses while forging potential new modalities of architectural intelligence. The final project of the course consists of the development of a thesis proposal. Learn more about @tsoarch courses on our website through the link in our bio and let’s connect if a Master of Architecture is on your radar. #architectureschool #architecturestudent #tsoarch #tsoa #masterofarchitecture

Did you catch the Schindler Space Architect screening with us last month? The movie was “equal parts visually stunning and historically compelling” says @ljhusband and we have to agree. We loved hearing directly from Director @valentina.vision who was present for a live Q&A session with the audience. Interested in a screening? Check out where they’ll be at on their IG @rmsdocumentary . Thank you @jones.studio and the @azarchfoundation for sponsoring the event and to the Taliesin Institute @wrighttaliesin for partnering and hosting with us. #tsoarch #rmsdocumentary #taliesininstitute #taliesinwest #architecture

Local field trips offer a different mode of learning, bridging theory, material, and lived experience. They become an extension of the studio, expanding what students believe is possible and how they imagine their role within the discipline. @tsoarch students visited @thedesignlab_az and gained insight into how the firm integrates innovative design, ecological principles, and creative vision to shape environments that balance beauty, functionality, and resilience. The experience deepened their understanding of how thoughtful design can strengthen the connection between people, nature, and the places they inhabit. #tsoarch #thedesignlabaz #landscapearchitecture #architecture

This semester, @tsoarch President @chrislasch leads the ARC 794 Elective, Special Topics class: High-performance Natural Building - A hands-on Comparative Survey. The course reflects the TSOA Learning By Doing pedagogy. Classroom research on natural building systems is paired with hands-on experimentation to give students experience working directly with materials and construction techniques. The workshops will inform the building of a small structure for the Pancho Memorial Farm, a traditional dryland farm on the @tohonooodhamnation . Big thanks to our straw-bale workshop lead @tierrabuenahome ! Ready for a hands on learning experience? Apply to one of our Master of Architecture programs through the link in our bio. #tsoarch #masterofarchitecture #architecture #architectureschool #learningbydoing

The School of Architecture Shelter Thesis with 2026 Master of Architecture Candidate, @brad_hughes44 . Brad’s thesis explores cultural translation in architecture, drawing from Korean architectural traditions and cultural principles and reinterpreting them within the context of Arizona, specifically at the @cattletrackarts . His work seeks to create an authentic hybridization that bridges these two distinct contexts through thoughtful design and material expression. For the structure itself, Brad takes primary inspiration from the surrounding mesquite trees, using their natural growth patterns to emphasize a harmonious relationship with the environment. The branching forms, which often bend toward the ground or extend outward in cantilever, inform the spatial and structural language of the project. To achieve these organic curves, Brad experiments with manually laminating CNC-cut plywood as an alternative to conventional bending techniques. This approach allows him to transform a typically concealed, rough material into a refined and expressive structural element, elevating it into a central feature of the design. #masterofarchitecture #architecture #tsoarch #architecturestudent #learningbydoing
