Funded by @nasa ’s Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium, fourth-year engineering students in the spacecraft capstone course designed, built and released CanSats, can-sized satellites that collect, stream and store temperature, pressure and GPS data throughout their flight.
These CanSats autonomously detect mission altitude, release from the mounting rig and deploy a parachute while maintaining control through passive stabilization. Their descent ends at a final velocity of 5 m/s or less upon landing.
The nine teams released their CanSats from the crane on the Sackett Building construction site.
