This striking exhibition invites visitors to explore the beauty, light, and layered landscape of the Sonoran Desert through a new lens, all within the inspiring surroundings of Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and desert laboratory.
Don’t miss your opportunity to see it before it’s gone. Please note: tours at Taliesin West are closed on Tuesdays, so plan your visit accordingly.

For our next Then and Now, we’re highlighting the allied art of sculpture.
This photograph depicts apprentice Aubrey Banks turning a bowl at the pottery studio at Taliesin West in 1959.
Frank and Olgivanna Lloyd Wright structured the Taliesin Fellowship as an intentional community, where apprentices would live and learn together in ways that advanced collaboration, and creativity. The curriculum centered around hands-on learning experiences—“learning by doing”—that included architecture and construction but also a wide array of allied arts. They cared deeply about developing well-rounded individuals and encouraged the apprentices to be creative and try new crafts.

Aka, there are a few weeks left to see Desert Mirror at Taliesin West. The site responsive project uses textiles, video performance, and a lot of mirrored acrylic to think through the economies and ecologies that thread through the built environment. @wrighttaliesin

Step inside the newly re-set Hillside Drafting Studio at Taliesin in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and experience the space much as it inspired Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentices during Wright’s lifetime.
Over the winter, the Preservation and Collections teams carefully studied historic photographs and video to thoughtfully return architectural drawings, drafting tools, sculpture, music, and other details to the studio, while still keeping the space active for tours, programs, and events. Even the vinyl records were selected from titles once found in Wright’s personal collection.
Now, visitors to Hillside can experience this remarkable space in a new way, surrounded by the creativity, atmosphere, and inspiration that once shaped generations of apprentices.

Hidden Gem for this week: Desert Masonry Cutouts.
The photo shows the cutout details in the Garden Room. Three little cutouts in the desert masonry mimic the same angle that a lot of the walls were built at. It lets in light but also hints at the overall construction of the place and articulates the material of the building. Like the dentils, these cutouts help to remind us of the desert.
There are three other sets of these, one is located in the Vault, seen on Self-Guided Audio Tour. And the other two are inside the Dining Room and WWP Conference Room which are both seen on the Behind-the-Scenes Tour.

Common themes are hidden where you least expect them in Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. Note the shadows behind Mr. Wright in the photo on the left, taken in 1946 at Taliesin West. And a similar pattern in the photo on the right, taken at the @Guggenheim just before opening in 1959.
