🌐 On Wednesday, June 10, join Triple Canopy (@triple_canopy ) and Are.na (@aredotna ) for presentations and a panel discussion with Becca Abbe (@cdxs ), Ingrid Burrington (@lifewinning ), Lai Yi Ohlsen (@laiyi____ ), and Ruby Justice Thelot (@being_on_line ). For “From Earth to Sky,” Abbe, Burrington, Ohlsen, and Thelot will interrogate the metaphorical language surrounding the internet and investigate what these metaphors reveal about the historical, political, and cultural contexts in which they became popular. The terminology used to describe the internet often relies on figurative language that ties it to the physical world: Servers live on farms, music and movies arrive via streams, and a lifetime of data floats, allegedly weightless, in the cloud. While these figures of speech suggest a bucolic digital terrain, they often obscure the actual physical infrastructures and material resources that undergird the web, as well as the complex social and economic dynamics that determine how people interact on and access the internet. From the cloud ☁️ to the dark forest 🌲, the technologists, writers, and artists will explore the symbolic landscapes produced by the internet’s metaphors through four short presentations and a panel discussion. 🔗 RSVP to the event through the link in our profiles.

🎤 Last fall at Triple Canopy’s 2025 Symposium, Maya Martinez (@hidingfrommystalkerok ) performed a portion of “Hole,” her original play in which the appearance of a giant sinkhole in a strip mall parking lot in Central Florida sparks an existential crisis. This Saturday at 8 p.m., for our thirtieth issue, Maya Martinez and Nate Wooley (@pleasureofthetext ) will present new performances that consider the mouth. Martinez will perform a new score written in the tradition of phonopoetics: treating words as characters, accents as tones, and marks on the page as mutable gestures. Wooley will perform a new solo work in which he reflects on how four decades of playing the trumpet has transformed his lips, jaws, teeth, and tongue. In verse, prose, music, and movement, Wooley will contemplate what it means to truly commit to something—in his case, putting metal to his lips for several hours every day—as well as the consequences, from small devastations to subtle disfigurations. The program will be livestreamed by New York Television (@newyorktelevision ). 🎟️ RSVPs for this event are sold out. Those without RSVPs are welcome to arrive early and wait in our standby line, which forms 30 minutes before the event starts. All remaining seats will be released when the program is scheduled to start. If you have RSVP’d and arrive after the event’s start time, we cannot guarantee entry. If you have RSVP’d and can no longer make the event, please email [email protected] so that we can release your tickets. 🔗 Visit the link in our profile to learn more about the event or to watch Martinez’s performance at our 2025 Symposium.

✨ It was our honor to honor Howardena Pindell on Wednesday night at the 2026 Triple Canopy Benefit. Her work has shaped how we experience abstraction, understand the role (and responsibility) of arts institutions, and remain laser-focused on the concerns of the present. As Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts noted, what we now call institutional critique is, for Howardena, simply a way of being—a practice forged through persistence, clarity, and a singular attunement to the smallest material gestures and the largest social forces. We also celebrated our 2026 Fellow, New Red Order. We’re proud to call Adam Khalil, Zack Khalil, and Jackson Polys (@selledesong , @zackkhalil , @jacksonpolys ) our collaborators for the next two years. Stay tuned for more updates on the NRO’s fellowship project as it develops. Our deepest gratitude to Courtney Willis Blair (@covrtney ) and Sharifa for their thoughtful remarks, to Chang Yuchen (@yuchenyuchen ) for her beautiful edition and stargazing guidance, and to Jim Fletcher (@fletchergraffix ) for his “reverse Brando.” Many thanks to our generous Host Committee: Garth Greenan Gallery (@garthgreenangallery ) Seth Stolbun (@sethstolbun ) White Cube (@whitecube ) And the members of our Honorary Committee: Naomi Beckwith Jordan Carter (@jordancartercarter ) CFGNY (@cfgny2 ) Sean Connelly (@seanwconnelly ) Natalie Diaz (@ndinn ) Adrienne Edwards (@adynyc ) Barbara Hoffman (@thehoffmanlawfirm ) Candice Hopkins (@candicebhopkins ) Steffani Jemison (@steffanijemison ) Deana Lawson Lucy Lippard (@lucylippard ) Paul Pfeiffer (@pmp2021 ) Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts Ed Ruscha (@edruschaofficial ) Paul Chaat Smith (@paulchaatsmith ) Doreen St. Félix (@doreenstfelix ) Lowery Stokes Sims (@lowerysims ) Finally, thanks to the evening’s sponsors: Fleurotica (@fleurotica ) LRC (@lrcnyc.online ) Dunton Ellerkamp (@duntonellerkamp ) 📷 Photos by Jordan Macy (@jordy.png ).

“Most of the holes I see in the ordinary furnishings of my daily life are useful: A hole at the edge of my mug makes a handle, a hole in my shirt holds a button, three holes in my face let breath in and out. My new shower curtain has twelve holes in a row for twelve metal rings, which are almost all hole. None of these things are complete without their gaps.” For Not Nothing,Dana Lok (@danalokokay ) worked with Triple Canopy to create an interactive artist project that considers how, in reexamining the visual metaphors that help us hold together our world, we might be able to approach “knowledge in new shapes.” Consisting of a short essay and a “catalogue of holes and holey things,” which features eight newly commissioned drawings, “A Hole for a Hand” attends to the gaps and openings in ordinary objects like coffee mugs, sieves, and fabric. Together, Lok’s writing and images propose that holes are not just things to be filled, but generative forms that facilitate necessary functions. 🔗 Visit the link in our profile to explore the project. 📽️ For this year’s of Prismatic Ground (@prismaticground ), Triple Canopy is copresenting the US premiere of Surrendur (2026), Karthik Pandian’s (@lucid_decaptiation ) debut feature, at Anthology Film Archives (@anthologyfilmarchives ) on Saturday, May 2, at 5 p.m. Taking the toppling of a Christopher Columbus statue in Minnesota as a prompt, Surrendur links oral history and prophecy, documentation and reenactment. Pandian, an artist and longtime Triple Canopy contributor, describes the film as a “mandala for opening the manasu”—Tamil for heart and mind—“to the frequency of love in revolt.” Surrendur is anchored by Pandian’s intimate conversations with Mike Forcia (Bad River Anishinaabe, @mikeforcia ), the American Indian Movement activist who spearheaded the Columbus monument’s removal in the wake of the George Floyd uprisings, and Ta Pe’juta Wičháȟpi Win (Hunkpati Dakota Oyate, @pejuta4you ), whose political consciousness was awakened as she and her daughter danced around the fallen statue. Before the screening, the filmmaker Rhayne Vermette (Métis, @exovedate_ltd ) will read a series of poems. The event will conclude with a Q&A with Pandian, Mike Forcia, and Ta Pe’juta Wičháȟpi Win. 🔗 Visit the link in our profile to purchase tickets. Stills from Karthik Pandian, Surrendur, 2026. 👄 For Mouth Pieces, Triple Canopy has invited two artists to create new performances that attend to the largest orifice in the human body. Nate Wooley (@pleasureofthetext ) will debut a new solo work in which he reflects on how four decades of playing the trumpet has transformed his lips, jaws, teeth, and tongue. Maya Martinez (@hidingfrommystalkerok ) will take up Samuel Beckett’s Not I (1973)—a notoriously demanding short play that stars a woman’s disembodied mouth delivering a breakneck, riotous monologue—as inspiration for a new performance score that considers words as characters, accents as tones, and marks on the page as mutable gestures. Contributing editor C. Spencer Yeh (@cspenceryeh ) will moderate a post-performance conversation with Wooley and Martinez. The program will be livestreamed on New York Television (@newyorktelevision ). Mouth Pieces is free, but RSVPs are required! 🔗 RSVP now through the link in our profile.

In “Exit Points”, Miko Revereza’s (@mikorevereza ) reflects on his return to the Philippines after having lived in the US without documents for twenty-six years. The filmmaker compares his experience of his birthplace with the stories and images of his grandparents, textbooks, and Hollywood films. Drawing on his 2023 film of the same name, Revereza moves between a roving first-person narrative, film stills, photographs, transcripts, and verse. He recounts his decades-long effort to uphold the “fiction of legality”—to act as an American in the hope of becoming one on paper—and his decision, in the end, to drop the performance and “live illegal.” “Exit Points” grapples with the struggle for a sense of belonging in a homeland that has never been home, connecting US immigration policy with the legacies of American imperialism and Spanish colonialism in the Philippines. The essay is adapted from Revereza’s book Nowhere Near, which was published last week by Wendy’s Subway (@wendyssubway ). 🔗 Read the essay through the link in our profile.
