Thomas Ross Fitzsimons is a British-Australian film and television composer and multi-instrumentalist based in London. With roots in classical performance, he has found his voice in the recording studio, blending sampling and synthesis with traditional orchestral elements to craft distinctive, textured scores.
His recent work includes the Universal/NBC/Channel 4 comedy Everyone Else Burns and The Cathedral— winner of Best Documentary at the Krakow Film Festival.
Seeking new sonic territory, Fitzsimons began moving away from his primarily acoustic background, building a modular synthesizer as a personal exploration. That hands-on experimentation soon became the foundation for The Planets — a project born from a deepening interest in electronic sound. Inspired by artists like Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Alessandro Cortini, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, Fitzsimons discovered a new creative direction after years rooted in classical and acoustic traditions.
Following the release of Vol. 1 in July 2025, Planets, Vol. 2 continues this journey. Each track draws inspiration from the writings of early 20th-century astrologer Alan Leo, whose work famously influenced Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite The Planets. While Fitzsimons doesn’t reference Holst’s music directly, he mirrors the composer’s approach — using Leo’s astrological characterizations to guide the emotional arc and modular sound design of each piece.
Although not considered a planet in classical astrology, Earth closes the project — a reflection on our own world. The track explores a mix of optimism and unrest, focusing on both the positive aspects of the planet and the underlying tension that defines life on it.
