I directed this visual to explore the concept of radical acceptance. The cave scene symbolizes the sensation of sitting with a feeling instead of fearing it to the point of isolation. As the video progresses, climbing out of the cave mirrors the liberation that comes from facing the fear of exposure and the pressure of being consumable to audiences as a source of monetization.
The dancers represent extensions of me breaking through limitations by investigating misplaced rage by way of somatic movement. As an independent multi-hyphenated artist, it was so fulfilling to channel my studies in psychology through a Black sci-fi horror lens.
In full transparency, I got robbed twice in the last 6 months, so I didn’t have proper funds or prep time to put towards the video so this motivated me to connect with the message more than the technicalities this time.
I’m grateful my friends were willing to join me in telling this story and contributing to the outcome.
