A modern translation of the world’s most famous femicide We’ve talked to @ToshBasco about Strike, where his and @Wu_Tsang ‘s international collective, Moved by the Motion, dismantles the myth of Carmen. They bring a challenging mix of film, flamenco, dance, and music, is not a retelling but an excavation, an attempt to expose the violence within the beauty of this legend. See Strike at @NTGent Schouwburg on 23.04.2026, 24.04.2026, 15.05.2026 & 16.05.2026. The avant-première on 22.04.2026 is free for Different Class members. Check out the event via the link in bio. In focus: Tosh Basco, finalist in the Art category. Tosh Basco (*1988) was born in California and rose to prominence in the drag scene in San Francisco in the 2010s. Well-known for her movement-based performances under the name boychild, Basco’s photography and drawing accompany the performance practice. Viewed as a whole, Basco’s work attempts to enfold language, becoming, and representation together in spaces where they are presumed to exist as discrete entities. She is co-founder of the collaborative entity Moved by the Motion with Wu Tsang, and collaboration remains a vital aspect of her work. © Images Portrait: Tosh Basco by Ines Manai 1: Untitled blue, pigment on paper, 2021 2: Untitled bouquet, oil and mixed media on linen, 2022 3: Shatter and embrace (for Hijikata), pigment on paper, 2017 #SwissArtAwards #SwissContemporaryArt #ToshBasco #saafinalist @toshbasco Swiss Art Awards 16–21 June 2026 Halle 1.1, Basel Design: @clemenspiontek @clioham

Opening this Friday, September 13th, from 6 to 8 PM, Tosh Basco’s (@toshbasco ) second solo show with Company Gallery, titled ‘FIELD OF FEELS’, presents a new body of work featuring paintings. Over the past decade, Basco has worked primarily as a movement-based performer, investigating modes of improvisation in dance, theater, and performance art. She has carved out a space in the realm of performance where desire, memory, and survival are inscribed on the body in gestures of becoming. My first solo museum show is up for 3 more weeks. No Sky at @rockbundartmuseum No sky “I There are no frogs in this vast sky no messages there is no sky in this brain no words no brain in this body no connection the drought is in the mind and on the ground” Excerpt From: Etel Adnan. “Time.” No sky brings together many pieces of my practice and the culmination of many moments in my life: Where there is no language there is performance. Where there is desire there are photos. Where there aren’t words there are the drawings and paintings. When there is longing there are pictures. As Fred Moten writes, “the work is all, and not at all, and all and all and all and nothing”. “There is no sky / in this brain / no words.” And there there is no logic in the making. It is a felt sense, a full throttle feel in the working through World. I began performing over a decade ago in drag bars, where I found myself together with many other people who shared the desire to share space. This desire of sharing of space I carry with me now in all of my work. When I was 15, my father gave me a film camera. I learned to see through his eyes through the lens and have been interrogating the ways in which the mechanisms of seeing, visibility, representation engage with the project of subject formation. When I dance I am free of it all, an open channel to say what can’t be said in the photos or in words. It is all an attempt to move towards love and the dissolution of the Self as a discrete being. It is an offering in the hope that it can soften the hard edge that propels us further away from one another. Tx you to @xzhunowell @rockbundartmuseum team and @roll_office
