Filmed by @andrew.studer take a walk in the woods with our amazing team as they set out to camera trap these elusive cats. With over six million people visiting the Canyon each year, less than a handful ever glimpse one. With both the weather & film industry in bleak mid winter, I’m still so inspired looking back on what amazing collaboration can achieve. V/Speed’s idea of what jet cinematography could deliver to a nature documentary was purely conceptual until this day in Monument Valley. What they delivered for #AmericaTheBeautifulSeries was an unmatched aerial perspective of the natural world. This run of about 17 miles took just a few minutes in their L-39 fighter. A perfect flight path hand flown by pilot Michael Steiger combined the stability of the SHOTOVER F1 Rush gimbal system with a RED HELIUM to deliver an entirely new type of shot - the V/SPEED Hyperlapse. Monument Valley was the perfect scale both vertically and laterally to deliver the first look of this new perspective, with a day’s worth of sun having melted just the right amount of snow to showcase mesmerizing terrain relief. It’s almost 5 years to the day that @revealedinnature captured this shot for America The Beautiful & there’s now a tragic story behind it. We were granted access to this amazing location in Malibu Canyon thanks to a gracious owner and a Shephard we met on the property. She was grazing sheep to create a fire break on the land and it was her intel that gave us the confidence to setup our cameras on the ridge line overlooking Santa Monica Bay. We captured this stunning image (which sadly never made the series) but now this location is also the current epicentre of the Franklin Fire. I can only hope they maintained their ingenious firebreak practises and spared the property from the worst of the fire. #mtlion #malibu #franklinfire #calfire #americathebeautifulseries
