Sir David Attenborough, perhaps the most courteous, polite, generous and well mannered person I’ve had the pleasure to work with over the past 27 years. Regardless of whether he was able to take on a project or not, he would always take the time to write a personal letter in response to explain why he’d like to or was not able to do something, and to thank you for asking (take note some people today who email a soulless “no.”, or don’t respond at all!). This one was a polite no, but there were a couple of yes’ in there over the years. Happy 100th Sir Attenborough, they don’t make them like you anymore x

For the past 25 years, flip through fashion editorials and magazine covers and you’ll find @TomMacklin ’s influence everywhere—quietly shaping stories you didn’t even know you were watching. The creative powerhouse at the intersection of casting, cultural engagement, and event programming shows that the roles he occupies don’t have to exist separately. When driven by storytelling, they thrive together. Macklin’s brainchild, @ClubCine.ig , perfectly captures his love for a good narrative, showing how film clubs can occupy an unexpected space in contemporary culture while nodding to the celebrity-focused lens that makes his fashion work so cinematic. For Macklin, casting always follows the same lines as a perfectly constructed script. He admires the intentionality of brands like @YSL and visionaries like @Jonathan.Anderson , who aim to build community rather than a roster-focused world. Throughout his career, marked by discovering rising talents and nurturing their stories rather than overwriting them, he has resisted letting the industry’s pace dictate his own. In this conversation with our editor-in-chief @AleksKovaleva , Macklin opens up about the Hitchcockian influences in his work, how the casting landscape has evolved, and the challenge and freedom of building a career that defies convention. ‘I was already like Instagram, before Instagram.’ Michèle Lamy is someone that needs no introduction. Becoming an icon within the world of fashion and design, her life started out on a very different career path - @lalamichmich initially graduated with philosophy, studying under post-structuralist Gilles Deleuze, and developed into a defense lawyer. Meeting Rick Owens and becoming his life partner, she dived head-first into becoming one of the most exciting creatives of our generation. Talking about the art and cinema that shaped her own taste like watching Sergei Eisenstein movies in school or performing in front of Sofia Coppola in the 90s, she also touches upon the films and projects she is yet to create in this week’s Cinétherapy. Read the full interview live on our Substack in the link in bio. 📲 Interview by @tommacklin Illustration by @richardkilroy #MicheleLamy #RickOwens #Owens

New work: John Malkovich for PORT John Malkovich has designed fashion collections, directed plays and starred in films stretching from Of Mice to his latest, Opus – a psychological thriller. He portrays Alfred Moretti, a reclusive popstar who invites journalists, including Ariel Ecton (@ayoedebiri ), to his remote compound under the guise of a listening party for his long-awaited album. For Issue 36, he speaks to Port about his instinctual approach to craft, the theatre’s enduring pull, and why the best roles are often the ones still unwritten. Malkovich wears @dior throughout. From his breakout performance as Martin Luther King Jr in Selma to playing Henry VI at the Royal Shakespeare Company, David Oyelowo (@davidoyelowo ) has consistently sought roles that challenge both himself and the narratives that surround Black actors. In Government Cheese he takes a turn into surrealist comedy, playing a man caught between redemption and survival. For Issue 36, he speaks to Precious Adesina (@preciousadesina ) about risk, reinvention, and why every performance should feel like a leap into the unknown. Oyelowo wears @dunhill throughout. On many occasions, Oyelowo described Government Cheese as a story about making something out of nothing. “It’s called [Government Cheese] because it’s hinting at ingenuity, aspiration, making the most of what you have,” he says. “It’s indicative of what so often happens for people who have less.” In some capacity, it feels as if Oyelowo is speaking of himself, having gone from growing up on a council estate in north London to being a household name in many countries across the globe. “What I love about the show is it’s a celebration of people who have little, but live full lives on the basis of being able to punch above their weight.” Photography @quillemons Styling @thevonford Grooming @vondakayemor Production @hyperion.la Set design @carlosanthonylopez @winstonstudios Editor-in-chief Dan Crowe Associate publisher @andrewchidgey Creative director Matt Curtis @uncommon_london @mcurtis1 Deputy editor @aylaangelos Fashion director @mitchellbelk Photography director @hols_hay Art director dxn_shxn Production director @carlyrgray Talent/Casting director @tommacklin at @tommacklinstudio
