Making the components for Gaia’s Hair before we arrived at Sarah Eberle’s ‘On the Edge Garden ‘at the Rhs Chelsea flower show . for charity - Campaign To Protect Rural England , generously sponsored by Project Giving back . The reel shows the process cutting , bending , tying , wrapping one of 600 plus elements. There’s something about the act of repetition that I am drawn to …movement, rhythm , patterns , moments of flow state . @saraheberlelandscape @theoutdoorroom @cpre @@project.giving.back @wood5333 @noblestonework @specialisedmetalfabrications @spencercollection #cpre100 #ontheedge #rhschelsea #artisans #gardenforgoodcauses

The Pine cone greets visitors to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens , as they enter the garden at its most elevated position . There’s a lot of shadow play when the lights perfect , sadly it was quite overcast yesterday , but thank fully dry . I love how the sculpture appears to float, as the landscape drops away . I have made repairs to the pine cone over the last 8 years , however , this is its very first full restoration , including some steelworks . Listening to the visitors Yesterday as we re- installed the sculpture, there was a genuine sense of joy that the pine cone had returned . Coincidentally there was a school group visit , year 3 ,I think , they watched as we climbed ladders to assemble the scales to complete its form . They were literally shouting with excitement about it , it was so effecting , probably more so ,since we have been workshop bound for a couple of months , and have not seen many other humans folk. Also , marks the first Full family install : So Thank you to Sara , Izaak , Evie & Red , for generally being ‘up for the adventure’ , their hard work & humour 🙏✨ Thank you Garden Team at #sirharoldhilliergardens ⭐️ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #tomhare #tomharesculpture #sirhilliergarden #sirhilliergardens #willow #sculpture #pines #inthepines #pinecone #pineconesofinstagram #pine

So we flirted with @tearup.fest at the start of the week , for a 24hr weave up, to produce -The Wind Temple 💨🍃 Just in case you weren’t clear which direction the wind is blowing from , the temple should provide those answers , or at least it was delivering this ,and more ,when we left ! Sadly, we can’t stay around to see all the makings unfold , with imminent deadlines clashing ,with what is set to be the highlight of the Basketry year 💫 So lovely to see old friends and new ,during this flurry of activity. Willowy Folk are just the best types . Have a blast kids 🌱💚🌱

The @freedomfromtorture Sanctuary Garden , currently at the Rhs Chelsea Flower Show ,supported by @project.giving.back , is soon to be installed at FFT Head quarters in Finsbury Park over the next couple of weeks , where it will become a part of their ongoing therapy programme . The Garden designed by Emma O’Connell & John Warland , was inspired by working directly with survivors and staff at Freedom from Torture . There are plants from previous homelands that evoke memories of happier times . Some of the plants chosen are scared and show resilience and hope . The willow element flows through the garden , creating soft ,curvaceous lines and movement . This wraps over the boundary wall and presents a quiet meditative area ,where a willow seat gives opportunity to sit and reflect. The whole structures dissects into 11 sections and is woven together onsite to be seamless . It’s been such a privilege for @hare.sara and I ,to work as part of the wider team that’s delivered this, it’s a lot of love💚in a 10m x 10m space. The Garden was built by @livinglandscapesuk The Plants lovingly nurtured by @bethchattogardens Designers : @emmaoconnellgardendesign & @senselessaob Beautifully consistent ‘Flanders Red’ Willow grown by @musgrovewillows Thank you to the Weavers - Andy Cowling Pete Zelenczuk Joe Martin Michelle Cain And Special thanks to @artfabs for helping with the delivery & installation.

Back in the room it seems: With some footage I can share, looking back at a younger Tom ,and tales of things to come.. . The footage was taken in 2009 ,during which, I had installed The SeedWalk at Kew Gardens . I was introduced to Anthony Saint James (@a.stjames )by Leigh & Sarah @inkymole ,and on a gentle ,autumnal day , a relaxed interview took place ,in my old workspace in the midlands . I was reminded of this video recently by Anthony , and on the first viewing I felt warmly reunited with that fresh faced younger fellah , that talked of a passion around creativity and Willow. It’s a really lovely moment for me to look back on ,and I’m very grateful . Tales of Things to come : Right now I am working on the sculptural elements for Freedom from Torture’s Sanctuary Garden ,for The Chelsea Flower Show , which provides a therapeutic space for survivors of torture . The Garden will be relocated at their HQ in Finsbury Park after the show . So I’ll post about this more over the next couple of weeks, as the deadline is fast approaching. Lots of Love Tom
