Time Square is a good place to show your first big car shoot. DP/Directed all the social motion content for @lucidmotors launch of their Compromise Nothing campaign. Working side by side with still photographer @noltekuhlmann and digitech florianbrandl_ was an amazing opportunity, and they were equally influential in my getting blessed by @giant_spoon and @smugglersite to come on board for the ride.

Let me lay this out: THIS was a super cool one for @psychobunny LIMITATION: 9’ seamless paper backdrop CREATION: great talent @zuf.capelli @haljieman @gabrielianrobles @matthew.laureano plus @zeisscinematography @zeisscameralenseslatam supreme prime radiance lenses with an @arri Mini LF which I picked out from @tcsfilm in NYC On this gig…I’m director, DP and editor combined… so I have this free feeling on set to do what I want in pursuit of my goals within our sandbox for the day while making sure to get what client is after. I have an amazing team with the creative vision set by @newmonstercreative with @ericlobb and my stills photographer neighbor is the legend @guyaroch so I can always check in when I need to make sure our visions are aligned -so the stills and motion campaign work in tandem. @mikesimpsondop has already hooked me up with his amazing NYC lighting crew recs: @okmot1 @leqsee and an AC like no other @careyaway @getit_pro and @geoff.gibson.producer have everything and everyone ready to go at @industriasuperstudio We have one day to do it. I’m a LA native dropping in to the NYC world for a single day and I’m so happy with what we captured. When I’m in this combo role… I’m at ease, I’m at peace. The team has got me to a place where I can play and decide in the moment. I know when the lens and talent are singing together. I really dig the results. I may appear as a crazy squirrel while doing so, but it’s where I feel most in the zone. When the music video is the behind the scenes-shot on Panavision 35mm. …In 2008 I had the privilege of directing a music video for the late Johnny Hallyday-often described as the Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger of France. Johnny had been performing since the early 1960s, and he wanted this video to reflect a lifetime as a rock n’ roller. The song title “Ça n’finira jamais” literally means “It Never Ends”. Writing the treatment, I wanted to honor his legacy, while also acknowledging the cost of giving so much of yourself, day after day, for decades. I remember thinking: Johnny probably aged more from the harsh lights on the stage than from the sun itself. The idea became an epic, behind-the-scenes style film-blending performance with bittersweet vérité, offering quiet glimpses of him processing a long road already traveled. Technically, going Panavision 35mm on their Primo Anamorphics was the only move to shoot France’s biggest rock icon. Ethereal flares and slow motion gave me incredible moments. As our own film tools became part of the production design, I opted to use large tungsten maxi brutes combined with 18k HMIs. For the camera car- now hero picture car rig, I wanted something unapologetically old-school…so I opted for a manned crane, with DP @nathanaelvorce and 1st AC @jrydings flying at the end of the arm, rather than a Techno with remote head.
