We all got it wrong with the Anthropic event job posting at $400,000
My initial reaction was wow, finally an event lead paid a fair wage.
Especially when top event roles make 1/3 of that.
But then I thought about it
It’s a job in SFO in the 320-400k range. It’s on the high end but not uncommon.
It’s a vital role for AI companies. I saw the pressure and attention their team got at a recent event.
Anthropic pays engineers 150k-200k more.
This is a top role, for the top tech company in one of the most crucial functions.
I think we rushed to celebrate.
Sure, Anthropic is commendable for understanding that events matter.
As an industry, we should expect more.

I can stretch it for mints.
But you likely spent 150K to be there.
Why on earth?
I prefer nothing.
A great conversation with a motivated person.
A clever backdrop with a funny statement.
All the budget on a nice-looking brand.
Maybe I am not seeing something.
Maybe USB flash drives are useful.
Maybe a branded keyring is the way to go.
Maybe that flashlight pen is essential.
I see more waste and trash.
