They’re currently making their way round their 3rd tour of the island and I’m super happy to be joining them tomorrow night in beloved Glasgow for @popmutations @acutaboveglasgow Kulku play my old haunt @theflyingduckglasgow and then there’s an after party in the Apollo where I’ll be playing back to back with dear @lizzieurquhart along with good friends @12th.isle and many more. 🖤

As you might know, for the past 2 years I’ve been studying an MA degree in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at @udkberlin_sounds This masters course has been a hugely significant for me. Not only bringing me closer to understanding myself as an artist but also introducing me to an incredible community of friends, colleagues, artists and educators that exists around the program and in the wider sound art and experimental music scene in Berlin. A couple of weeks ago it was announced by the university management that they intend to close the program completely. We can’t let this happen. Without this department, Berlin will be losing its only university-level program in sonic art and the community will be severely damaged. While Germany is investing in weapons and war it’s suffocating the arts and education. There is an open letter that has been published by the faculty and students along with a petition calling for support to oppose the closure of the department. If you could please take the time to sign the petition and share it with your followers and network, it would mean a lot. There is a link to the petition in my bio. Phuong Dan has spent two decades at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene in Europe, hosting and curating the legendary Gatto Musculoso nights at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club. As a DJ he’s known for his ability to blend sounds from experimental and avant-garde electronic music to contemporary underground techno through dub, post punk, disco, house and rave in sets which show little adherence to conventions and genre. This rare London appearance of Dan’s in the unique setting of Spanners for Phase Group and Sagome this Saturday is sure to be one not to miss. Joining him on the night is Lizzie Urquhart, another DJ with a talent for connecting the dots between a wide range of sounds and co-head of the wonderful Somewhere Press label. Nice Strangers is a radio producer, record selector and half of the team behind Sagome, a London-based record label and event series known for pushing the envelop of electronic and experimental live sound. And MR TC is a versatile DJ producer of electronic music with releases on Optimo, Offen, Neubau and his own Phase Group, an imprint dedicated to forward-thinking electronic music that he co-runs with Lo Kindre. Soundtrack for Strangers came out 10 years ago now. Crazy. I’m not the nostalgic type but I thought I would share as in a lot of ways this first record of mine changed everything for me. These tracks were all recorded in @greendoor_studio with Stu Evans (sordid sound system) engineering. A week after the recording sessions I got an email from JD Twitch saying Stu had sent him the tracks and asking if he could put them out on @optimomusic . For better or worse, that moment made me take making music seriously and in different ways I’m still here doing it. It also lead to so many great encounters - adventures touring with the MR TC band (@conal_blake @mattemattik @danie1magee ❤️), going on the road with Keith and Jonnie @optimoespacio , DJing all over the world, so many new friendships and in a round about way introduced me to @cerentezgider 💘 It’s been a while since I put out any MR TC music while I’m working on TC LK and @trysteromusica but there is new stuff finished and I imagine some of it will find it’s way out next year. If Keith was still with us, I’d say thank you for changing my life.

Tonight at @arkaodaberlin for Signal To Noise I’m leading a workshop on how to create DIY locked grooves and perform with loops. I’ll be showing you how to make your own loops on vinyl with a razor blade and talking about how they can be used for performance and in installation. Clips are from my installation ‘Cut Cloud’ that was shown at @hosekcontemporary back in March. After the workshop I’ll be performing a live set with the newly made loops followed by live shows by @mariana.t.carvalho @cavid.dhen @marifa000 and a DJ set by @farzalifarhad and Club Amnesia. Rest easy Keith ❤️ Thank you for everything you’ve given to us. The inspiration, passion, knowledge, encouragement, support and love that you shared with everyone that you worked with or played music for over the years, has made all of us better people. You are truly one of my heroes. I do what I do because of you, showing faith in me when I was 21 years old. I learnt so much at Optimo and I’m so honoured to be a part of the Optimo Music family. I’ll always cherish the times that we shared playing on tour together, and I will keep on doing this thing, filled with the inspiration that seeing your pure and unstoppable passion for music has given me. Optimo forever ♾️
