MAKING WAVES 🌊
Maybe you weren’t born to
Rock the boat,
And that’s ok
Why be tsunami
When your small, everyday acts
Of kindness
Already ripple consistently
Your imperceptible ebb and
Flow
Wearing down rough edges
Till everyone you touch
Shines like
sea glass
Your steady waters
Providing buoyancy, and
An undercurrent of
Courage
This is how grace
radiates—
The gentlest of swells,
Empowering
Someone, and
Someone else, and
Someone that someone knew
Ripple by ripple,
One by one,
You can change the world
This way,
Too.

Mist Over Manila
From my perch
in the north
I watch the dawn break
over the city of Manila
The mist rolls in,
brewing over on top
outlining the lion’s domain
The early birds begin
the conga line
down the stretch of EDSA
to pay homage to the peso.
Four-wheeled creatures crawling
towards the very center of the snakepit,
where the tallest buildings in the land
emerge
from the depths of the concrete jungle.
The fruits of its trees
are enough to feed
the nation
Yet it only seems to feed itself
Until the mist that hangs over it
grows and grows,
a mushroom cloud
that brings thunder but not rain.
Away in the north
I watch from my perch
as the city breathes in its excesses
and slowly suffocates.
