On Friday night I went to the Library of the Royal College of Surgeons to celebrate Sophie Lee @electricpeachstudios launching her book Beyond Palatable.
I am always so proud when a client launches their book but this was different. It was remarkable not just because of the wonderful book and author. Not just because of the incredible people in the room. But because it felt so incredibly hopeful.
The world is a dumpster fire being ruined by rich old white men. But it will not endure because there are SO MANY of us working quietly to build something beautiful and safe and equitable and sustainable. There are quiet, passionate, powerful voices changing things with love and hope.
It’s important to remember the Internet distorts everything and there is real work being done in real rooms offline.
This is some of that work and I am so honoured and privileged to be part of it.
Thank you Sophie 💛
Coroner’s report stated the cause of death was puffy sleeves underneath a tight cardigan, aged approximately 4 years, on a family holiday in Betws-y-Coed. This is my first memory of dying. There were many more.
Cause of death: fajitas.
Specifically: fajita juice running out of the tortilla, down the palm of my hand, and under my watch strap.
Cause of death: a drop of water splashed onto my sleeve as I washed my hands.
Cause of death: wet wool. WET WOOL.
In public toilets, I stare aghast as perfect strangers go about their business washing their hands without rolling up their sleeves. I die on their behalf, just briefly, as I struggle to remove my coat, my jumper, my long sleeves, and my skin before I venture to the taps myself.

I started a newsletter about being late diagnosed with autism and adhd and what it’s like inside my head.
This is part of my first post.

“Would you like to go climbing?” he asked.
“Climbing? Like, rock climbing?” I said. “I don’t know how.”
“I’ll teach you.”
17 years ago (ish) I met the most handsome guy and we became friends. We both rode motorbikes and we both liked adventures and we both had no idea what we were doing.
He flirted with me; I was, as always, oblivious.
He taught me how to climb and I taught him that chaos can be fun.
I cooked him dinner — one of the only times that ever happened — and he pretty much moved in. We went walking and motorbiking and climbing and exploring, up mountains and deep underground at midnight into the flooded levels of a slate mine.
Reader, I married him — 16 years ago today.
Since then, he’s kept hold of the hem of my shirt while I’ve created a whirlwind of chaos around us.
He’s been my biggest cheerleader, my love, my best friend, and the only person I could ever imagine sharing this ridiculous adventure with.
Happy anniversary Joe.
You’re amazing.
I would have starved by now without you.

Does writing a book feel mysterious and overwhelming?
I gotchoo booooo
Whenever I work with a client to write a book, I learn SO MUCH.
And in Aileen Smith’s case, she got me running again. Outside. Using my legs.
And she got me to change my eating habits and find more protein to put in my diet.
She is, in fact, some kind of a wizard.
And she was an absolute joy and delight to work with and I’m so proud to see her beautiful book on my shelves.
Check this out!

When you’re not feeling very birthdayish because sad things are occuring in your little orbit then you open your birthday presents and your husband has got you a dinosaur lunchbox because he is the LITERAL best.
And then he gets you airplants like jellyfish, thus combining two other passions: the ocean and houseplants.
And then you open cards and gifts from people you love and realise how loved you are.
And the sun is out and the birds are singing.
What a day.
So grief is really fucking weird and horrible, isn’t it?
On December 1, my purrfect Noodle soulmate cat died after almost 16 years of loving me so much, his little heart gave out.
I feel like we had 16 intense years of joy, and maybe we could have had a handful more years with him but perhaps the payoff would have been a little less cuddly.
I’ve been pretty non-functional this past few days because, well, grief is really fucking weird and horrible. When you lose part of your family, it rips a hole in everything.
They say grief is love with nowhere to go, and maybe that’s right. But grief is also a sucking dark hole with one of those boxing gloves on a spring on it, that waits for you to forget for a moment, then punches you in the gut. And you realise that hidden in the boxing glove is a knife.
Noodle used to jump up from the floor into my arms and wrap his arms around me and purr into my ear. I had a dream the other night that I died, and he was waiting, and he did just that.
I keep hearing him asking for roast chicken or fish.
And I keep seeing him out of the corner of my eye.
I miss him so much.
Hug your furry companions while you can.
And I’m so grateful we had him with us for so long.
This first beautiful photo is by @joshgraysonfilm and I’m so grateful for your ever-delightful photo-recording of our friendship shenanigans.
Step into the spotlight Laura Otto!
Laura is an artist, gardener and permaculture designer, devoted mom, wife, daughter, friend, writer of words, and wearer of hats. Many hats.
She's written a brilliant book for ADHDers (like me) who want to declutter — and her take on how to have a tidy life quite frankly blew my mind. I’d never seen anyone come at it from that angle before.
You should defo come and join us at the Showcase at 3.30pm!

Drum roll please for… Tricia Nichols!
This MicroBook Magician has things to say about the wellness industry — and I’m excited to see what she’s creating. Her aim is to redefine modern wellbeing to inspire brands and consumers alike.
She has an impressive portfolio, including the iconic brands Gap, Estée Lauder, PepsiCo, and Under Armour, as well as emerging market leaders like Independent Pet Partners.
She recently founded Wellbent Co, a consultancy dedicated to positioning wellness-inspired brands for growth. When not advising and brand building, Tricia stays busy as an angel investor, board advisor, and occasional adjunct professor.
Come and hear her read from her new book today at 3.30pm GMT.
