I’m excited to announce the release of The Volume Stool, the first piece in a new line of furniture made in our studio. Shown here in white oak.
Rather than creating furniture by setting planes atop structures and bracing, the forms of the Volume series are the space they embody, more like a ceramic vessel. Designed as a stool or table, and to be placed on any side, it’s function is totally open ended.
While we are still committed to all our amazing clients for custom fabrication and design, we are also now producing high quality and original furniture pieces, and returning to the studio practice that originated Tim Schmidt Studio. I’m excited for y’all to be a part of it.

Flush, Six-light, Stave core door in mahogany for @bennewmanstudio
This one is a testament to the hidden craft of minimalism. Thinking about the first time a door maker encountered a flush door.
I couldn’t have executed this without the help of @raysaar , even though I got scared from using our hand cut veneer.

Love tile sample days. In our projects, we find it most important that the earth is felt in the home, while being designed with a surprising, meaningful and succinct intention. #terracotta

2025
My first artwork and show in seven years.
I was honored to be invited to be in this exhibition of ceramic artists this past weekend, even though I can hardly be called a ceramic artist. Because I currently have a crazy schedule with a newborn child to take care of along with a three year old and a business that seems to always be struggling to meet timelines, I tried to revisit some ideas I had in grad school to make this piece. In turn, the sculpture opened up some new avenues for me and became its own thing, even if not totally refined.
At the risk of ruining a thing by explaining it, For the past couple years, I have been diving into sound as medicine and as a vehicle of transmuting my own experience and thoughts, of becoming present in my own body and accessing sub layers of my consciousness.
This piece pays homage to my experience of sound as a portal into consciousness, and the ways in which our experience of the vibrations of sounds physical world can shape shift from superficial and material to sensations and thoughts that evoke landscape and deep cellular awareness to the dissolution of the body into pure consciousness Itself. Without trying to describe things that have always been difficult to describe, our consciousness inhabits more than one world, one often referred to as ordinary reality. This piece suggests that there are others that can be accessed as well. Maybe that seems like too much for a silly sculpture to express. I know it is , but that is where my mind is anyway.
You can see this piece and several other great artworks by @scotprocpots , @rebeca.proctor , @coolwaterwares , @jacquelineoverbyart , @potterybyshikha , @alejandra.almuelle , and @frankzhuceramicist at @colabprojectstx currently.
Thanks to Chris, Scott, and Rebeca for including me in the show.
Hope yall enjoy and have an idea of what that feeling is like.
