I love being independent, it is my most valued value, especially on home turf in Australia where I do feel so much is possible to do it the way you believe in. a privilege to get to spend every ounce of my energy, mind, lungs and wellbeing creating something new that feels like it speaks to what’s come before and what needs to be recorded for after. honouring also Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country where this record was made and told and shaped by the constant experience and activism of standing your ground, just as people have done here for all of this land’s human timeline. this is most country of them all.

In the depths of 2020 Gena Rose Bruce and I got together to work on demos for her 2nd album. We decided on some touchstones to guide us and set about fleshing out her beautiful sketches. Every so often she would come back buzzing with some new ideas through her correspondence with @billcallaghansmog . It was a very fruitful collab!
We dressed the darlings in clothes that we hoped they’d grow into and brought together the dream-team - @cordy.gram@jadeimagineband and @marianancy to rehearse and give the songs the sparks of life in the studio.
And spark it did.
@marcel_borrack_td_band and I engineered the sessions at soundpark, and later, after a few overdubs from Marcel (acoustic guitar - deep Is the way) and @chichiharvey00 (backing vocals - misery and misfortune, foolishly in love), I mixed the album with encouragement and guidance from @freshairartists as we navigated the last few murky lockdowns.

Ruby Gill. What a charmer. If you haven’t already, go see her live, she’s one of the best. @marcel_borrack_td_band and I recorded this album at @soundpark_idge right before Christmas 2019 BC. The band did a beautifully restrained job of supporting @rubymarygill and we got much of it down live. @_wintagram_ took everything in stride with lovely melodic drumming. I love this album and I loved working on it. Like magic in slow-mo. Congratulations Ruby! 🏆🥇
This song - The Way Back by @ainsleyfarrell was recorded in Copacabana in NSW, March ‘21. It started life as a sweet, folkie country jangle, but pretty soon it picked up some bad habits. ✨Album coming soon✨
The beautiful first single ‘In Pan-as’ from ‘For Leolanda’ - @marianancy ‘s Phillipines inspired album came out today, and with it a total stunner of a clip by @dgry . I recorded and mixed the drums and percussion in our tiny apartment in Fitzroy mid October’21. Maria did the rest. I absolutely j’adore it. Check out the video, but if you get a minute defs hunt down the full length track on her bandcamp page. It’s very very good.
Congratulations to @jadeimagineband who put out this stunner last month. The sibling to Basic Love and recorded during the same sessions by me at @soundpark_idge . It’s rare, when you work on a project, to have the sensation of being pulled along by a force larger than you.
