In the March issue of @photopluscanonmag , Keith Wilson interviewed me about past and present projects I worked on, my graffiti background and how I came about documenting the animal industry.

Thanks everybody for your kind support and interest 🌸✊🏼

'I believe nobody wants animals to suffer. People care about them when they are made aware of them.'
@timostammberger hopes for his photography to raise awareness for those whose voices go unheard.
He grew up in Hamburg (b. 1980) and Frankfurt/Main and currently lives and works in Berlin. He studied at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie, (@ostkreuzschulefuerfotografie ), Berlin.
'My most memorable moment for sure is the first time I entered a pig breeding facility and witnessed suffering animals with my own eyes.
'I saw dead and dying baby piglets right in front of me with their seemingly apathetic mothers right next to them, unable to support their newborns from within their constricting metal cage.'

A few experiences that make intense projects easier and put our minds at ease for once. During projects documenting the animal industry, witnessing misery and joyful moments like these often coexist.
Much love to the team, whether human- or non-human animal 😋🩵🙌🏼

Can’t hurt me?
Over the past five years, I had to move emotional and mental mountains to re-calibrate and find peace again. So called "burnout" is what lies behind me – a vague term. To me, "emotional heart attack" sounds a bit more accurate. Anyway, a complex experience with both physical and psychological health effects.
For a while now, it feels like my challenges have turned into a new kind of inner strength and wisdom. I learned that’s called "Resilience". (Thanks, @drmelaniejoy 🤗)
I can still be hurt, of course. It’s a good thing letting me learn from mistakes. But in a way, at least you can’t kill someone who has already died on the inside a few times, right? "Trauma lives on a spectrum, it leaves the brain different going forward". I guess we’ve all been through things other people will never understand.
A grateful thank you to my parents, my brother and everyone who makes my life easier when it’s dark. I will start posting again more about my ongoing creative investigative work. The journey continues. Thanks for reading. Stay kind. And resilient 🤍
#BurnOutAwareness
We have a medical condition. In the beginning, we have to spend hours and hours of our time in waiting rooms of doctors and clinics, because we crave some kind of certainty. Only to find out that we certainly have to accept it as it is.
⠀
We fight with health insurances and authorities. Our condition is still viewed as just a matter of aesthetics. But our identities collapse. Out of desperation we boost profits of alternative and esoteric practitioners.
We explain ourselves to our employers and clients. We learn to cope with the looks we get from others, often before we can cope ourselves. We learn to reassure friends and family that we’re doing ok.
We have to strip away more layers when we become intimate with another person. We learn to know ourselves anew. We are "warriors" even though there is a "war" inside of us.
Our auto-immune condition isn’t painful, yet hurts immensely. I am proud of us. I’m proud of all who are fighting in silence. Be kind.

*In regards to what happened at the Oscars: At the same time, I don't support the physical violence of Will Smith. I do however support and can relate to the emotion behind it. I wish Jada hadn't been left in the background due to two men representing an outdated model of toxic masculinity. As very often these days, things are far more complex than they appear. Mutual empathy is key. Let’s stay kind.
"Yes to circuses, but without animal acts!"
This is the very first image I took in the Animal Rights context, taken 7 years ago today, October 26th, 2014 at a demo protesting the famous Circus Krone.
⠀
It was right during this demo when I first got the idea of focusing my photographic work around the animal industry, providing visual evidence of our destructive relationship with other animals.
⠀
After this event I started photographing many more animal rights demos, investigations, met with activists, NGO’s and took a deep dive into the animal industry and the way animals are used for human benefit. It has been an intense ride ever since.
⠀
I believe that discrimination, whether arbitrarily based on species, race, gender, dis/ability, class etc, is the root of most of the suffering in this world. Pain should not be quantified and there is an inherent value to all life on this planet that we should be collectively striving to protect.
⠀
Thank you to everyone who uses their time and privilege to make the world a fairer place ✊🏼💜

Have a look at my latest project UNTITLED.
–> Full photo series on my website via link in bio 🔦
To be born into the food industry means death for animals. Most of them will be killed in slaughterhouses; yet, many won’t survive up until then and already die inside the breeding and fattening facilities. In the case of broiler chickens, around 45 million perish or are killed annually in Germany before they reach slaughter. The dead animals are collected in container shelters for pickup by animal corpse disposal companies.
In the context of the animal industry as a “Black Box,” these shelters, at first glance, appear to be yet another inaccessible place. However, structurally, they are often located right on the boundaries of animal facilities, potentially visible to the public. Quite involuntarily, thus, an everyday part of the industry becomes its own sore point, holding content also entirely unsuitable for its marketing campaigns. The gates regularly open; lifeless, bloody bodies change spaces. For a moment, the “Black Box” is revealed before the doors are closed again. Even after their death, the animals remain hidden and locked away.
→ Inspired by the book “War Porn” by Christoph Bangert and his thoughts on self-censorship, some of the particularly graphic images in the series are displayed in a smaller format, thus blunting their impact and leaving closer inspection to the viewer’s own decision.
My new photo series UNTITLED depicts another hidden aspect of the animal industry.

Just emerged from a depressive episode and fortunately back again in good spirits 🙏🏼
⠀
Rather than falling for the urge of isolating myself, connecting with kind humans is key, but at the same time my biggest challenge when it’s dark.

Thanks everybody who has been supporting me via text or in person! You know who you are and your efforts mean everything to me 💜🤗
