The number indicates the distance from the lens itself, to the surface of the project that the lens need to be in order to stay in focus. The smaller the number, the smaller the area of focus.
-A 1.5" lens has the smallest area of focus, but the most precision. It's best for surfaces that are flat, since the smallest variations in height can take the beam of out focus.
-A 2" or 2.5" lens has a wider area of focus than the 1.5" lens. It balances precision on the surface of the material, with sharing some of its focal range into the material below. This allows these lens to cut thicker materials than the 1.5" lens.
-A 4" lens allows the widest area of focus. This means its not as precise as the other lenses, but it can stay in focus a wider span of distance, allowing it to engrave at varying heights (tumblers) or penetrate deeper into materials.
LENSES INCLUDED:
Thunder Laser machines come with a 2.5" lens which gives you the balance of precision and some increased cutting ability with a higher focal range.
However, it's handy to add the other lenses as well, so you are ready to work on any project that comes your way!
