Tomorrow - Thu 30 Apr 7pm (doors) :
AI: Progress or Pitfall?
Like all of us, I’m surrounded by many lovely people using AI without question, seeing it as an inevitability. This event tomorrow night, in collaboration with
@through.thecracks was devised to bring people from all walks of life together to learn, discuss, question.
I’ll be honest with you, to date we have only sold 18 tickets. This is a subject that affects every single human and yet as a population we don’t seem to want to discuss or confront this, perhaps overwhelming, topic.
From the mass reduction in jobs we are already seeing, to its contribution to climate catastrophe, a dumbing down of young and old users alike, AI military software killing civilians, manipulation and misinformation, theft of creative’s work, AI facial recognition rolling out nationally in the U.K. despite the trial showing it is not only inaccurate but wrongfully and harmfully targets global majority communities: the list goes on. Our schools, universities, local community groups and even art institutions, are all using AI without question.
It is perhaps the most obvious example of an intersectional issue that I have ever seen. Social justice groups, climate groups, educators, parents, minoritised communities, creators, parents and carers, community organisations, local councils and government ministers: every single person I know should be interested in this topic. It is the single most unifying and urgent topic of our times.
If you’re free and
@curzonclevedon is reachable for you tomorrow evening, then please come along and be part of the conversation. Please share this post. And if you can’t make it, start having conversations with people, let’s step out of the British discomfort of talking about anything other than the weather - although too tip is that will be part of this debate if we don’t start the conversation quickly enough.
