California hardcore legends Downcast highlight Saturday night at Crucial Times Fest! Originally active between 1989-1993, Downcast reunited in 2015 and continue to make music that advances critical thought, community, creativity, and opposition to oppression. We’re stoked to welcome them to Spokane! Crucial Times Fest will take place May 29-30 at the Guardian in Spokane, WA. Featuring 23 DIY hardcore bands from across the PNW, proceeds will support immigrant justice and aid. Tickets are $15 per session or $35 for the weekend and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Students can get a weekend pass at the door with their student ID for $25. Lufthansa Airlines @lufthansa lost our guitar and pedalboard on the flight from Los Angeles to Prague. The incompetent airline is not capable of locating our gear so we have departed on tour with a rented guitar and no effect pedals. Capitalism does not always align with morals and ethics and the airline certainly has no concerns for how their business practices affect their customers. This time it’s The Crimson Curse’s turn, we’re releasing, for the first time in EU, their Greatest Hits on a solid red LP, other variants available via Three One G. The Crimson Curse’s horror hardcore “anthology” here consists of select tracks from the band’s “Both Feet in the Grave” LP, tracks from their split 7″ with The Festival of Dead Deer, and alternate takes as well as their rare “Blood Thirsty Lust” track. This curse features members of The Locust, Swing Kids, Deaf Club, Head Wound City, Tristeza, Guyver 1, and The Album Leaf. Deaf Club is a savage sound bath dripping with sardonicism: a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind (un)sensibilities. Succinct pauses, surreal frequencies and effects, breakneck pace and sharply hurled vocals characterize the band’s aesthetic, which seems as though it is rooted in a sort of nasty-sound-meets-highbrow-message ethos.
