As I sit here in a milestones in Toronto bellied up to the bar I'm trying to find the story to share about this song dropping tonight at midnight
Just to paint the scene a bit I had just met
@iamjustingray a month or 2 before & he had asked me to take part in this songwriters workshop that he's been running for years out of a studio in Toronto.
30 or so writers from all over the world all gathered to write everything from commercial jingles to movie themes & everything in between
The first artist I was paired with was
@thisisbryn as well as
@alexreid_12 who was manning the board, we started the day making what would best be described as a KFC jingle, good fun but far from the world of writing I had been accustomed to.
We got that one done & broke for lunch, when we came back Alex suggested trying to write something that could showcase mine & bryns voices together, I started picking these chords & bryn got to work on the words, between the of 2 of us batting it around we were basically done in 15 mins with this song 'how not to lose you'
At a time when I needed to be reminded of the power of music & collaboration & saying what you mean & meaning it, this song fell from the sky
The music business is an extremely shaky treacherous place, but hunter s Thompson explained it better than anyone ever could so look up his quote on it, when you don't know what your next move is & you can't get a lung of air because your bank account is draining & you literally don't know what you're going to do & a gift like this arrives you notice it & are thankful & grateful
I gotta go run over to the venue now for the debut performance of it tonight with bryn & a host of other amazing artists at the td music hall, but when it drops at midnight tonight please give it a listen & share it around with anyone you think might like it, every bit helps to make it feel less like you're screaming into a void, I'm sure any & all of my fellow musicians & writers can relate to this.
Once again as always thank each & every one of you that has ever supported me over all of these many, many years.
Huge thanks to Rocknroll for saving my life, time & time again. 🙏
